I provide therapy for adults, children, families, and couples. Many people come to see me because they are feeling stuck, experiencing relationship difficulties , or are worried about their child's behavior or mood. I believe that although individuals and families have different values, beliefs, and struggles, when we learn to communicate about difficult things, we can begin to understand one another better. Learning to do this helps individuals and families grow together through life's transitions and challenges.

I am dedicated to helping each individual, couple or family find the keys to a happier and more satisfying life. To this end, I make a special effort to understand each person's dilemmas and what it would take to help them increase their experiences of joy and pleasure in their personal lives, one moment at a time. As the sources of pain emerge in therapy, I include each person's needs in the search for steps forward. My practice includes many individuals and couples who suffer from depression, anxiety, relationship distress, sexual dissatisfaction and the effects of past trauma.

You may be the person others turn to for support, or you excel at perceiving other people's feelings. These are strengths, but can take a toll on your well-being over time if your own needs are neglected. Whether you are hoping to feel calmer and more alive, navigate a life change, or resolve a painful situation, therapy can help. I specialize in treating people who are living with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, caregiving stress, or medical illnesses. I help people heal from past difficulties and increase feelings of contentment, creativity, connection, and sense of fulfillment in their lives.

Living with ADHD can often feel like a daily battle with yourself to accomplish tasks, maintain relationships, and attend to your own needs, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Learning how to work with, rather than against, your ADHD can be a transformative experience, and I would be honored to work with you through this journey. Together in therapy, we can work to tackle the challenges of ADHD while also bolstering your natural strengths and coming into and honoring your most authentic self. I work to create a therapeutic space that is constructive, creative, and above all compassionate. I can’t wait to welcome you in.

I help adults to make sense of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that result from a dysfunctional or traumatic childhood, and together we identify tools and skills to help you feel hopeful, empowered, and in control of your life. We will explore the source of triggers that cause you to react in ways that are ineffective, and find creative alternatives to encourage and empower you.

I feel both honored and privileged to partner with individuals and couples to build their understanding of their challenges, leverage their strengths, and create personalized strategies to make meaningful changes in their lives. As a therapist with ADHD, I recognize that one of the most painful experiences that come with ADHD is feeling “in your own way” and the sense of thwarted potential that comes along with it. I also know that ADHD doesn’t just impact attention, organization, and motivation; it can affect your entire life, from your performance at work to your home life and inner world.

I specialize in working with clients from the ages of 14 to adulthood, who are inquisitive, self-aware, and deeply motivated to understand themselves better, improve their relationships, move into a place of self-respect/love, and develop adaptive ways of coping, communicating, and problem-solving. I have worked for many years with children, teens, adults, and families dealing with trauma and change and searching for authenticity, often in a world that values the superficial. Therapy is a process of seeking meaning, managing change, letting go of what no longer makes sense for who we are and what we want, healing, and growing.

Anxiety is a pain. Struggling with self-doubt and constant worry can be overwhelming. My clients feel like they’re never quite 'good enough.' They compare themselves to others and constantly criticize themselves. These habits feel helpful in the moment, but leave them feeling stressed, tired, and overwhelmed. They might even feel like they can't shake their past mistakes or traumas. So much so, that they don't get the opportunity to fully enjoy the lives they've built for themselves or their relationships. My clients want to slow down and rest but are afraid that if they do, they'll fail.

I utilize an eclectic, psychoanalytic, and relational approach while employing a strong racial justice, feminist, and queer theory lens. I practice from a fat-lib, sex-positive, and intersectional feminist perspective. I believe that one's past informs how they interact with and experience the world. Healing takes place as one fosters empathy and consideration for their past and present selves. The therapeutic relationship allows for gaining deeper perspective and understanding of oneself. I strive to build genuine and earnest rapport with my clients by being deeply nonjudgmental and always practicing with respect.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
