I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board-Certified Music Therapist focused on creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment in which I collaborate with clients to pursue their goals. I draw from psychodynamic and humanistic theories to assist clients in becoming aware of ways in which past experiences may influence one’s connection with self and others today, while accessing and engaging with inherent areas of strength and health.

As your therapist, I will develop a treatment plan with you to focus on your specific needs, utilizing psychodynamic, strategic family therapy, collaborative problem solving, experiential, and cognitive behavioral strategies.
Children, teenagers, and adults all want to feel in charge of their own lives; I believe in fostering your personal growth and change despite any obstacles you might encounter. As humans, we strive to feel capable, considered, content, centered, and connected to others. I will help you realize your inherent strengths; such as, encouraging parents to feel competent in their parenting strategies; guiding children and teens to respect and understand their parents’ values and expectations; bridging gaps in communication between couples and family members; and challenging you or your child to take new, manageable risks in your life.

I am skilled in a variety of approaches: cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and systems or relational therapies as well as art and play strategies.
There are many experiences in one’s life that can lead to anxiety, sadness, or feeling alone. If you or your loved one are struggling with these feelings associated with change, infertility, grief/loss, family discord, or internal pressures, I will provide empathic guidance towards coping and healing. Together we will address your struggles, build on your strengths, improve your understanding, and discover better ways to cope. I can connect with you through a variety of strategies. Together, we will peel back the layers of thoughts and feelings, and identify ways to explore, cope, communicate, and heal.

You know yourself better than anyone else: your struggles, dreams, desires, goals, feelings, relationships. As a psychotherapist and trauma specialist, I help people understand their experiences in a safe and supportive space that promotes growth, healing, and exploration of all areas of life. If you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, sad, or easily triggered, talking with a professional can help you navigate through those emotions and find balance. Therapy can help people regain control/focus in their lives and disrupt the cycles that keep leading to the same negative outcomes.

Making the decision to begin or restart therapy is tough. We get messages from all around us that we should be independent or "strong," so asking for support can feel like somehow, we've failed. Maybe it gives you anxiety just imagining how you would squeeze one more appointment into your already packed schedule. Less than optimal experiences in therapy might have you tired of searching and worried about who you'll be able to trust. Or maybe you're waiting for the 'right time' to begin. Whatever has brought you to this point right now though, has taken a lot of strength.

Perhaps you’re feeling a significant amount of stress, anxiety, or feelings of depression from relationship issues, an illness, fertility struggles, divorce, or having to care for children and/or aging parents or maybe you’ve recently become an empty-nester, or have reached retirement age. On the flip side, the positives in your life such as graduations, career opportunities, marriage, births, and parenting may cause the same exact feelings. Having someone available to listen and help you work through the joys and challenges you experience can be helpful and relieve some of the pressure. Together, we can get you feeling your best!

Couples come to therapy often feeling frustrated, defensive, hurt and angry. Love, attraction and shared life goals may have brought them together, but along the way to deeper emotional intimacy couples meet roadblocks. Growing self-awareness and curiosity about their partner helps them appreciate their differences as enriching rather than threatening. Partners realize that each of them has a role in cultivating the quality of their relationship. Partners learn to support each other's growth and expand their horizons together. Their relationship feels more alive and hopeful. Therapy nurtures the art of relationships for all of us.

Throughout life, we are met with challenges and stressors that can seem beyond our capacity to manage. No one should have to weather this adversity alone, and if you are ready to heal and find peace with yourself, I would be honored to join you on that adventure. My collaborative approach is rooted in compassion and a strong belief in each person's inherent strength and abilities. Traumatic experiences, anxiety, and depression have an enormous impact on mental, physical, and emotional well being, and I believe that addressing the whole self allows you to heal.

You have exhausted your resources trying to solve your current challenges and are seeking outside counsel, maybe for the first time. It feels daunting, seeking out a stranger to share what has been going on and wondering where to start. You come with strengths like perseverance - it has gotten you this far and you continue to seek answers. You are curious and willing to ask questions. You have courage, to share what is happening, to come as you are. You are someone who appreciates learning and is open to new perspectives because as Einstein said - “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it."

You are unique! As such, the story you tell me about your life, the way YOU see it, is where we will begin. Using both traditional and mindfulness-based approaches, I as your mirror will help you decide what it is you want to explore about your life... about yourself. From there I'll guide you in the process of gently and compassionately finding ways to effect the changes that help you meet your goals and find the joy, peace, and happiness you deserve.

My passion is working with young people and their families concerned about the impact of substance use in their lives. I understand that many people have been harmed by one-size-fit-all treatment approaches, so self-empowerment is my focus and my approach is person- and family-centric. There are many paths to wellness. This means that you are in charge of your treatment goals. I understand that any change is difficult so I'll meet you where you're at in the change process to empower you to take the next steps.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
