My main clinical approach integrates psychodynamic (working through influential/unresolved issues from early development), existentialist (we all want to find meaning in life), person-centered (congruency between how you see yourself/how others see you), and Core Energetics therapy (somatic work) elements into a holistic practice style.
I work with a range of issues (depression, anxiety, addiction, creativity/inspiration, relationships, job stress, grief/loss) and offer both long- and short-term therapy. I work collaboratively with clients to understand their current experience and to identify realistic steps to facilitate change in order to better serve life goals. I encourage active engagement in treatment to better support greater and long-term desired change and will serve as an advocate on your behalf in these pursuits.

I use a variety of modalities including IFS, polyvagal theory, Gottman Method (Levels I&II), training in EFT, somatic work & have been studying authentic Tantra for the last 9 years.
Limited Openings: My passion has always been to work with people; and I love what I do! By the time a person/couple comes to me, she/he is usually experiencing discomfort, has run out of ideas, and needs help. My favorite client is the one who recognizes this need and has the desire to make change happen. It takes courage to risk involving an unknown person in such an intimate process; and it takes courage to change. I have almost 30 years experience helping clients with concerns including sex and intimacy, relationship needs, transitional change, personal growth, behavioral difficulties, mood disorders, grief, and others.

I use a somatic, whole body approach in working with my clients.
Life is just getting too hard. The nightmares, the memories, the sleepless nights, the triggers, what do I do with it all? Will it always be this way for me? Trauma, CPTSD, and PTSD can feel overwhelming, frustrating and isolating. It's possible nobody around you understands, or they are telling you that you should "get over it", or that you should have been able to move on by now, and you want to. You want to be able to connect with people again, to feel safe in your environment and in your body. You want to feel better, and you want to thrive.

My training is in creative arts therapy, verbal psychotherapy, meditation, and somatic psychotherapy.
What we are looking for in life is often right in front of us yet, we often lack the ability to see it. In contemporary society, many of us are head strong putting the mind and thoughts above the body and feelings. In this manner, we may lose ourselves in a world of mental illusion. When we are able to access our inner nature, comprised in part of our instincts, aptitudes, and intuition, we are more equipped to be self-guided in life and able to achieve balance and wholeness for ourselves.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
