I provide psychological services including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I); Play therapy with children; Eclectic and flexible approaches to working with teens; Psychodynamic therapy with adults; One-time/brief consultations.
Your history and your goals for treatment are the most important parts of whatever kind of psychological services you engage in, and because of this, our work will begin with a careful and collaborative conversation about your situation and your narrative. This will culminate in a thoughtful discussion of treatment goals. You will find that I am an active participant in the work we do together, providing feedback and encouragement as you interact with new ways of approaching your self and your daily life.

I am a licensed psychologist who utilizes mindfulness-based therapies in my approach to treatment. I have worked with many patients experiencing varied mental health concerns, including anxiety, OCD, depression, loss and grief, eating disorders, sleep disorders and acute stress. Together, we will work to identify what you value in life and explore ways for you to engage in a way that is aligned with your valued outcome. Typically, what lands people in my office is a gap between how they are living their lives and how they want to be living their lives. Our work together would focus on closing this gap.

I am a student at Western Oregon University pursuing my Master's in Rehabilitation Counseling with a focus on Mental Health. I am supervised under Catherine Bice & Amy Welsh at Birchwood Counseling. I'm wanting to work with people who have ADHD via the use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. I also like to work with people who have insomnia and other sleep difficulties via CBT-I. I am a pretty laid back person like to be able to laugh and take things more casual. I am hoping that my clients can share in that humor, yet also learn new things about themselves in a safe and judgement-free environment.

Accepting new clients beginning Oct. 7th 2024! I specialize in work with individuals who experience Anxiety Disorders (OCD, General Anxiety, Phobias), Depression, Insomnia, Autism Spectrum Disorders as well as those with medical or complex presentations (e.g. depression and diabetes). I believe therapy must involve a human connection and have come to find a good sense of humor is critical to the work done in therapy. Without a strong therapeutic relationship, it is nearly impossible to make progress. However, within the context of a collaborative, supportive environment, CBT tools can be very useful.

Whether you're finding your way through these or other challenges, I am here to provide a non-judgmental environment where you can express your thoughts, emotions, and concerns.

I specialize in working with people who find that their mental health issues are in their body as well as the mind such as stress, anxiety, panic, insomnia, PTSD, high sensitivity, neurological conditions such as ADHD, chronic illness and pain.
When you notice symptoms like anxiety, panic or getting triggered showing up in your life, it's easy to wonder if something is wrong - but what if the symptoms are just messengers showing you where you need to heal? What if instead of covering up the symptoms, you could get to the root of what makes certain patterns keep showing up? What if you could free yourself of the noise that keeps you from being your authentic self, having healthy relationships, and making a difference with your true calling and gifts? A holistic approach does all these things while putting you in the driver's seat of your own process, as you get support.

While my expertise is in trauma, anxiety, and sleep, I always focus on the important relationships in your life.
I believe that you are the expert of your experience. In our first session you will share what brings you to therapy and what you hope to gain. What I contribute to our work together is my knowledge of psychological theories and my ability to translate that into effective treatment. I will offer my perspective and experience and always be open to your feedback, experience and preferences. Our work is less like going to the dentist (with an active doctor and passive patient) and more like painting a mural together (as if we are each holding a brush and making decisions about what to paint and where).

My psychological counseling approach is an in depth, psychodynamic, very engaged therapeutic relationship that addresses the body/mind connection both verbally and somatically. It is known in medical research that we hold our feelings in our body and as stress and tension build up, we have problems and symptoms that respond to therapeutic intervention.
When our emotions go unheard, unexpressed, or even unfelt, our symptoms can worsen over time, developing our personal and interpersonal problems and often actual disease and disorders - such as pain, insomnia, muscle tensions, and indigestion.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
