I truly believe we do the best we can, in the moment we're in, with the skills we have. Sometimes, we just find ourselves in situations that overwhelm us, or outmatch our coping, communication, or problem solving skills. Therapy can offer new tools and insights so that we can get "unstuck" and move forward. I will help you explore and build upon your current strengths, supports, and skills as well as help you navigate the changes you'd like to make for yourself and for your relationships. I value listening, exploring strengths, and helping examine and shift old habits that no longer serve you.

Whether you’re seeking freedom from painful patterns or deeper connection with your true self, our work will be guided by your needs.

Being a human is really hard. Sooner or later, we all experience the anguish that accompanies unwanted change (like illness, trauma, grief, heartbreak) or much-needed change (like relationship problems, bad habits, addiction). Making matters worse, it is often the times of greatest suffering when we are harshest with ourselves, driving us deeper into despair. But I witness again and again that hardship can also give way to something new and beautiful: It can open the door to asking for help. It can lead you to consider making bold changes. It can force you to get serious about what is most important to you.

I frequently help people work through difficulties with relationships, depression, anxiety/panic, trauma/PTSD, grief, and academic/career struggles.
Each of us goes through periods where we feel stuck or overwhelmed, and the path through has become difficult to find. My hope is to provide a space and relationship where you can better understand yourself and find the freedom to move forward again. From the first meeting, I approach therapy as a collaborative process where it is most important that you feel understood, supported, and accepted. I value being able to support people of diverse identities and backgrounds. Your many cultural contexts are important to me in understanding the shape of your life and struggles.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
