As a former teacher from a family of teachers, I have, since 1996, maintained a private practice that is devoted to the assessment of learning difficulties. I work with students age 12+ and adults in higher education or the workplace, who have difficulties in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, attention, and/or executive functioning. Psychological, neuropsychological, and educational assessment tools are chosen for each individual, to build on strengths, facilitate appropriate support, and help each individual learn the best strategies for managing any challenges.

One of the goals of the assessment is to provide an in-depth understanding of the young person’s strengths and to uncover the causes of their challenges. Another goal is to provide families, teachers, and other individuals who work with the student with evidence-based recommendations so that they can succeed and thrive in their life.

I tend to work with people who have tried many different therapies which failed to adequately improve their brain-related challenges or the benefits of such therapies have plateaued. Thus, this means that my clients tend to have fairly complex symptomologies and diagnoses, sometimes they don't even have formal diagnoses due to the unique mix of symptoms. Maybe the client has physical symptoms that their physician cannot explain and says are psychosomatic or due to a history of complex trauma. I also work with children for both neurofeedback and neurobehavioral counseling, which is behavioral counseling based on neurobiology.

I offer child-based services that focus on building self-esteem, teaching skills, and re-igniting a passion for learning.
Raising healthy and happy children with ADHD can be a big job, but the good news is that you do not have to do it alone. There is a lot that can be done to help! ADHD is a complex neurodevelopmental condition that impacts each child differently. ADHD has little to do with how "smart" your child might be, but it has a lot to do with your child's ability to regulate their attention, mood, and behaviors. When symptoms of ADHD lead to lower self-esteem, mental health concerns, behavioral challenges, or academic struggles, it is a good time to seek professional help.

I work with clients from a systematic approach. This approach allows clients to identify dysfunctional patterns of communication and other behaviors. This approach also aims to treat the underlying issues rather than solely focusing on the problem itself. I utilize a reality-based approach to treatment by using therapies that help clients establish greater control over their lives while enhancing the ability to build meaningful and effective relationships. My main goal is to provide a therapeutic environment where the clients can learn to focus on thoughts and behaviors as well as learning new adaptive experiences.

I serve adolescents and young adults who have a desire for understanding what is happening within them and discovering ways to improve their mental well-being as they develop. I strive to provide a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere where crying is accepted and laughter is encouraged. I deeply value getting to know an individual's true self and embracing the unique ways they see the world. My goal is to guide clients in learning skills and discovering their own personal strengths so that they can find confidence in their ability to heal and work through struggles on their own after counseling is complete.

I take an eclectic approach, utilizing principles from motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, behavioral activation, and social learning theory.
I provide therapy and parent training for young children demonstrating challenging behaviors at home or at school. I also provide therapy services for children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing significant difficulties with anxiety, ADHD, and/or depression. A primary speciality of mine is working with parents to better understand their children and their children's unique parenting needs. This sometimes involves a comprehensive assessment to explore concerns related to ADHD, Autism, or learning differences.

I work with neurodivergent individuals and families. I work with those seeking clarity and a way forward. I am currently accepting new clients for psychological evaluation (including for autism, ADHD, giftedness, learning disabilities, and more) and Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE). I offer a compassionate and integrated approach. My psychological evaluations result in a comprehensive psychological report, and I aim to "tell the story" of an individual rather than simply assign a label. All evaluations yield individualized recommendations, and I provide client-centered, in-depth feedback sessions aimed at empowerment.

As a clinical psychologist trained as an integrationist, I enjoy working with people from a holistic perspective. I believe it is important to consider not only what is going on in the present, but also what has happened developmentally, biologically, interpersonally, and cognitively. In addition to conceptualizing our experiences as people from a systems perspective, I conduct individual, group, and family therapy using a DBT-informed frame of practice. What this means is that change comes about by learning new behaviors in a variety of contexts while balancing the reality of a person's situation and skill level with acceptance.

I utilize standardized cognitive and learning assessment tools and observational skills during assessment to formulate diagnoses.
As a psychologist specializing in children and adolescents I am best suited to provide a clear idea of problems, developing an effective treatment plan, working with families, schools and other support services to create effective positive change. Only by focusing on parents' concerns, supporting their parenting style can satisfactory treatment occur.

Learning Differences.
Experience passion in your marriage and fun in your family. You've spent years building an exceptional family, career, and life but recently have hit a snag. It might be a lack of intimacy in your marriage, a child who isn't thriving in school, sports, or emotional health, or a feeling that you're stuck--simultaneously overwhelmed and uninspired.

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
