Currently accepting clients aged 14+ and families. Often times, teens have a hard time expressing themselves and processing their stress, leading to eating disorders, substance use, and other behavioral issues. Whether your teen needs new coping skills, or your family is looking for wrap around support, I believe families are the key to healing. Individual and family therapy can provide space to improve communication, repair wounds, and build the skills needed to support teens through crisis.

I have provided psychological services along a continuum of care for eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder), from inpatient to partial hospitalization to outpatient.
Welcome to my psychology practice. Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, relationship stress, or distress due to constant heavy demands in your daily life? In the therapy relationship, I journey alongside my clients as a partner in thought and a companion in healing and recovery, toward empowerment and more confident living and relating. Our struggles invite us to grow. We don't have to be sick to get better. I also have a specialty in treatment of eating disorders, with a focus on understanding how relationships in the real world impact internal relationships with one's body and with food.

Life, without any major disruptions, is stressful enough; however almost everyone experiences times that are especially difficult. Oftentimes, people find themselves getting lost, anxious, or frustrated during these times, and can develop problematic ways of coping because they don't know what else to do. This is understandable. When a person is in emotional pain, it is hard to be rational and think of a good solution. I'd like to help. Through therapy, you can get caring support and new solutions to problems that will help you build the fulfilling life you deserve- where a sense of peace is possible.

Studies show women attend counseling nearly 2-1 vs men. That said men, understandably, have cultivated a natural and valid discomfort for talking out issues, with the legitimate fear of being harshly judged or truly not heard. Well, I’d like to help men who find counseling uncomfortable. Suicide is the 11th overall cause of death in America. MIDDLE-AGE men have the HIGHEST rate of suicide making up nearly 70% of those total numbers. I’m here to help those men that want to find help, and need to truly be heard. As far as my approach, I’m a combination of holistic and realistic. Women are welcome as well, Im equal opportunity!

Beginning the counseling process can be intimidating. I aim to provide clients with a safe and neutral space to share their story and feel wholly accepted without judgment. I believe that inviting the vulnerable parts of ourselves to be seen, heard, and cared for can lay the groundwork for effective therapy. By exploring past and present experiences, thoughts, and feelings, we can identify and alleviate barriers that are preventing you from living the life you desire.

Not Accepting New Clients At This Time - Do you feel like you're doing "everything right" yet you still feel like something is "off"? Somehow you feel both anxious and depressed at the same time yet you can't pinpoint why? Or maybe you can pinpoint why - you just received an unwanted diagnosis, a loved one passed away, you're dealing with past trauma, going through a divorce, or trying to adjust from living at home to living in a dorm. Maybe in an effort to cope, you've turned to alcohol, food or some other escape. But you're tired of just surviving and you're ready to start thriving.

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
