I am an Art Therapist and a Licensed Mental Health Professional with a passion for helping children with ADHD reach their fullest potential.
Raising healthy and happy children with ADHD can be a big job, but the good news is that you do not have to do it alone. There is a lot that can be done to help! ADHD is a complex neurodevelopmental condition that impacts each child differently. ADHD has little to do with how "smart" your child might be, but it has a lot to do with your child's ability to regulate their attention, mood, and behaviors. When symptoms of ADHD lead to lower self-esteem, mental health concerns, behavioral challenges, or academic struggles, it is a good time to seek professional help.

I help teens, individuals, families, and couples work through past and current life challenges and specialize in anxiety, ADHD, and relationship issues. I choose effective approaches that are individualized and help you identify with more sustainable tools to utilize for coping and problem-solving in daily life. It can be difficult to find a therapist that is the right fit, and who will successfully help you reach your goals. I work with individuals who want to address concerns efficiently, work towards growth and change, and not be in therapy long-term.

Life tends to hand us some unexpected challenges that can catch us off guard, or even knock us off our feet. Grief and loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions and relational hurts rob us of our peace, leave us feeling anxious, unable to make progress, and can challenge our core identity. I have extensive experience helping people through a wide range of challenges and struggles throughout my twenty years in pastoral care ministries. Processing the journey in a safe, supportive, trauma informed, environment sets the foundation for those experiences to make you stronger instead of chipping away at your heart.

As a clinician who is part of the Kelle DeBruin Counseling team, I have a passion for working with people who think complexly about the world around them and want to "dive deeper" on their journey. Those who contemplate life’s big questions: who am I? What do I want? What is my purpose here? Why did I have to go through that and what does it mean? Together we will explore yourself and your values, and any barriers that prevent you from creating the life you want to live, either yourself or in your relationships.

Sometimes things in the world just don't make sense. Sometimes things in our families or other intimate relationships seem not quite right. And sometimes, even in ourselves, it feels confusing. Maybe you need someone to listen, to hear beyond the words, and understand what is felt, undefined, and deeply meaningful. Maybe you need support in creating definition to your values; Or a clearer intention in how your family relates and functions; Or effective, softer, clearer, communication with your partner. Or maybe, you need someone to support you in discovering your needs, wants, desires. I'm here with you for this unfolding discovery.

Thriving in a world torn apart by broken relationships, unmet expectations, and ongoing heartache can seem like a far off dream. While navigating the ups and downs of life can be challenging, I believe God uses our pain to help us see ourselves, to see God, and to see others more accurately. I am passionate about helping people move from brokenness and sorrow to hope and restoration, and I believe that this journey is not meant to be an independent one. I’m here as a companion for this journey to help you to uncover your God-given identity, and embrace a healthy sense of self.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
