Hello! I am currently a graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at OSU Cascades and have been holding space for people as a certified Spiritual Director for the past 20 years. I value deepening relationships with friends and family and being engaged in important conversations and actions that create healing and transformation in our world. It is important for me to continue to learn and grow and connect with a diverse group of people from different backgrounds and sexual orientations. As a contemplative, I value creating space for meditation and reflective practice with others.

In addition to being a psychotherapist, I am also a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist.
I believe that the foundation upon which an individual's emotional, psychological, and physical health may thrive is determined by the strength of that individual's relationship with "self". My treatment style is holistic and integrated, its core components being that of empathy, authenticity, and collaboration. My areas of practice include relational issues experienced throughout the lifespan, trauma, moral injury, sexual/gender issues, and issues pertaining to chronic illness and addiction. I provide services for those within the military culture, LGBTQI community, and for caretakers experiencing compassion fatigue.

We all find ourselves in dark places at time in our lives. This is a part of life. What is important is that we do not stay living in the dark. Sometimes we need help to break out of the darkness in our lives and minds. Trauma, loss, grief, substance use, and disrupted relationships can all result in finding yourself in a dark place.

Do your past experiences, relationships, or losses have you feeling stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed? Perhaps you find yourself unable to shake certain memories or move smoothly through difficult emotions. Many people cope by numbing out, disconnecting from themselves and others in their lives through substances, screens, or something else. Are you struggling to connect with loved ones in authentic and meaningful ways? Are you straying from your true north, struggling with self-esteem, communication, or behavioral challenges? Does your family feel like a place of harmony and strength, or like a minefield of insults or silence?

I believe that life happens best when we take care of one another, and my goal as a counselor is to care for folks with warmth, acceptance, and authenticity. I am especially passionate about helping clients explore, shift, and understand identities. I love working with the queer community, new parents or soon-to-be parents, teenagers and young adults, and people struggling with faith transitions and spiritual trauma. I love being curious alongside my clients as we explore "who's in there?" and "how do I want to live?" and "what's been in my way?"

Approved CSWA Supervisor. We live in an ever-changing world that can feel overwhelming at times. We often feel disconnected from our friends and family. Sometimes it can feel hard to re connect. We have become a society of people who struggle with feelings we were once unfamiliar with. Anxiety, depression, and worry. I have spent much of my career working with individuals in an inpatient setting and through community based clinical programs. I began to see a significant need available private practitioners who accepted insurance and had availability.

The many paths of my career have brought me to realize, working with people and finding opportunities to foster growth and healing is how I'm wired. I've worked with families, teens, adults, and chronologically mature individuals in a number of different locations and roles over the years. If you are willing to explore and be curious about your thoughts, emotions, and history, I believe that is a solid footing to make progress in the barriers in life.

Sometimes a sense of depression can be an alert to a spiritual emptiness or exhaustion that does not benefit from being pathologized or vilified as something "wrong" with you. It can signal an opportunity to release yourself from distractions and limitations that do not serve your deeply held values. If you want to explore your broken heart or disconnection in a holistic way, I invite you to begin the conversation to discover its deeper purpose. I tend to work from a psychodynamic approach, taking time to explore an individual's life experiences and assessing how those experiences have shaped current beliefs.

Hello! My name is Amanda. My work is grounded in acceptance, authenticity, compassion, creativity, trust, humor and safety. Transformation can be messy, intimidating, confusing and even scary. It can also be exciting and beautiful. I will support you through this journey to find healing and access to the kind of life you want to live. I see my role to be a facilitator, guide and collaborator with you on your path to inner wisdom and self-discovery. I value building a strong therapeutic relationship from which we can explore narratives, patterns and behaviors that no longer serve your well being.

Through a compassionate, collaborative approach, my work is guided by the goal of fostering curiosity, personal insight, and tangible change through the counseling relationship. I work with a broad range of folks and have experience working with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, perfectionism, obsessive compulsive symptoms, and much more. I hold a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology and have worked in outpatient clinics (including RTC), and private practice. Client's who feel safe, secure, and trusts the therapeutic relationship can begin the healing process, and discover common patterns in their thoughts and behaviors. Past relationships tend to shape current interactions with others. I believe the basic assumptions are that people are doing the best they can, want relief from their emotional distress, and to have quality relationships. The goal of therapy is having quality relationships that enable clients to develop healthy choices to fill unmet needs.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
