I work with a variety of adult clients. Most people who consult me are confronting anxiety, depression, substance abuse, stress related disorders, and marital problems. In assessing the type of problems, people present, I look at lifestyle, current coping mechanisms, how we think and perceive our problem, our personal histories and what strategies specifically people have used to address their concerns. The use of mindfulness, learning to be more present in the moment allows for reduced reactivity, new ways of coping, problem solving, and relating to others in ones environment. It can lead to healing and transformation.

One of my greatest rewards as a therapist is helping clients explore ways to make changes in their lives that will allow them to look forward to the future with hope and live fully in the present. I believe we all need someone to talk with, who will really listen and accept us as we are, without judgement. I provide clients with a warm, non-judgmental environment; a safe place to explore the issues that may be preventing them from living the life they want. When pain lingers long enough or becomes greater than our ability to keep pushing forward, we finally become willing to do whatever it takes to get relief. Psychological and emotional distress affects our sleep, our eating behaviors, use of alcohol and other drugs, our well-being, and our ability to function at home, work, and in our relationships. We're often plagued by fear, anxiety, anger, frustration, confusion, depression, self-doubt, failure, hopelessness, and even total despair.

If you are looking for a therapist, it is likely you are ready to experience some change in your life. I provide trauma-focused psychotherapy which can guide you into both transformation and healing. You may be suffering with symptoms of depression, trauma, chronic pain, and anxieties. When you reach out for help, feeling better is an inevitable outcome. Often, when you begin to more mindfully experience your inner world, you may feel more emotional intensity before you feel better. My therapy approach is holistic in the sense that I acknowledge and work with the body, mind, emotions and spirit.

Have you ever found that someone you love just asked you for something simple, should not be a big deal and you reacted to them by getting frustrated and overwhelmed, then you blame them? Did you then walk away and think, oh no why did I do that, why do I keep doing that? I believe that therapy is a safe place to learn and understand why you do what you do, it's only with that information that you can change your behavior. I am passionate about helping people better understand themselves.

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
