Utilizing interventions from positive therapy and reality therapy, I work with clients to increase their awareness around their thoughts and feelings so that they may independently take on healthier behaviors.
I look forward to working with individuals, couples, and families struggling to adapt or change their lives. I know life can be challenging, and sometimes, we face obstacles that require us to enlist assistance to move forward. I am honored to assist with multicultural issues, identity issues, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and much more. If you seek assistance from someone who identifies societal restraints and familial traditional challenges to help you find your identity and independence, I would like to work with you. Together, we can find ways to embrace your past and create excitement about the future.

My training includes DBT, Reality Therapy, Jungian Coaching and Ericksonian Hypnosis.
Sometimes, we want to make changes but struggle with unknown parts of ourselves that seem to stop us. Habits, life long patterns and unconscious beliefs can hold us back from living the life that we long for. It takes time and courage to examine our belief system and reach out for what we really want. As a therapist, I follow the process of each individual. Clients are viewed on a spectrum of health, rather than through a lens of pathology. This approach creates a very curious and creative focus that encourages growth at the client’s own pace.

Reality Therapy / Choice Theory is my core treatment and we will deal with things directly.
The therapeutic experience should encourage one to live a more satisfying and meaningful life. Everyone has a unique journey through this world and the sum of the experiences along the way (good or bad) make us as individual. Sometimes we get lost, hit bumps, or even get overcome with a tidal wave of things that we need help getting back on our path or creating a new one.

I practice Reality Therapy primarily however I use various other modalities to support clients.
My name is Aura and I have been working and supporting families in the Rogue Valley since 2013. I specialize in working with teens and young adults however, I am able to treat most clients of any age. Through out my life I have been a Public Safety officer, a CNA, and an LPN in the valley and elsewhere so I bring a broad range of experiences to my practice that enable me to support clients and meet them where they are at. Currently I also perform crisis work and have supported people through some of the toughest periods in their lives.

"...Psychotherapy...is as varied as human individuals. Treat every patient as individual as possible...the solution of the problem is always an individual one," wrote CG Jung. While living our lives we all go through periods of struggle and difficulty. From time to time help is needed in the form of counseling to assimilate and integrate the problems, and/or otherwise painful emotions. My approach to therapy is humanistic and client centered. I value each person as an individual. I will work collaboratively with you to nurture and support the healing and changes you envision for yourself.

CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENT! Are you living your best life? Do you sense your life has become unmanageable? Do you struggle in relationships? If your story contains themes of depression, anxiety, addiction, interpersonal issues or just "seem to be stuck right now"; lets have a conversation to see how I can help you to create a better story. I'm a therapist, but I'm also a parent and wife who makes plenty of mistakes. Luckily, perfection isn't necessary or desirable. Beginning your journey in therapy can be difficult and overwhelming…perhaps even a little scary. It takes a lot of courage to be vulnerable and explore some of the most difficult aspects of your life. That’s why it is so important to find someone who you can trust. I believe life is not just made up of one- but many journeys and the experiences along the way. I enjoy working with individuals who have a multitude of different experiences, cultures, and backgrounds. These experiences help me to incorporate the most important aspects of your identity to ensure your treatment is in alignment with your core beliefs and values.

Reality Therapy

Is reality therapy evidence-based?

Reality therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapies. However, some research does indicate that reality therapy might be helpful for people with addiction, and may be effective in treating social anxiety in young people.

How long does reality therapy last?

Reality therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Reality therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of reality therapy long after treatment has ended.

Does reality therapy work?

Reality therapy can help a person manage concerns such as eating disorders, addiction, substance use, anxiety, phobias, and relationship difficulties. This type of therapy encourages a person to be accountable for their behaviors. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure. Reality therapy can be useful in one-on-one therapy or in group sessions. This method may be used with children, families, and adults.

What are the limitations of reality therapy?

This therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the therapist focuses on choices made by the individual in the present day. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over others. This format may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every client.
