My practice is currently full, please reach out you would like to be added to the waiting list (est. 1-2 months). I offer a compassionate, non-judgmental, therapeutic environment where my clients can feel welcome and safe. As a psychodynamic therapist, I believe that healing can happen through accessing the realm of the unconscious. This process of exploring thoughts and images can be daunting, but also immensely satisfying and life changing.

I’ve been a therapist since the early 1980s. I work with all kinds of people dealing with all kinds of issues, from psychodynamic work to problem solving. The work is always intended to address the whole person. Psychotherapy is a collaborative relational process. That is my approach.

My approach prioritizes a psychodynamic and relational frame, though I draw from mindfulness and cognitive approaches to empower my clients with tools along this often abstract, meandering path that is the work.
Perhaps you were raised in an environment that prioritizes mental health and is supportive of psychotherapy. Conversely, and as often the case, you were taught from caregivers that it was "weak" or "shameful" to obtain professional support, or to even seek help outside of yourself. These sentiments still permeate our culture, and though they are shifting, I find that they still lurk and impact one's drive to pursue mental health care. So in either case (and for all others in between), getting here was a process. In this spirit, I want to commend you for taking this huge and vulnerable step toward healing and deeper self-awareness!

I completed an advanced study program in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which is often useful for problems that don't respond to other therapies.
Are you curious about how counseling can help you? I enjoy working with people who would like to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and of the relationships in their lives. We work collaboratively to identify your priorities and therapy goals -- and to explore internal conflicts that may be getting in your way. When you feel heard and understood, you can start to discover the many unrealized facets of yourself, learn self acceptance and find clarity and purpose. Together we find meaning and direction.

My values as a therapist are to provide non-judgmental, empathic, and culturally informed care, while emphasizing an environment founded on personal growth, openness, and honesty. I use a multi-faceted approach to therapy to best fit the unique needs of each client because I recognize one size does not fit all. I often work from a psychodynamic-relational stance, using the client-therapist relationship as a tool to increase my client’s awareness of interactions between self, others, and the world to improve decision-making and enhance life satisfaction.

I’m trained in modern psychodynamic as well as several behavioral therapies and interventions (CBT, ACT, DBT, CPT, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, problem solving).
As a therapist, I believe my first job is to witness. I aim to support a space that is safe enough for you to tell your own story, heal, and step further into your own power. I welcome open discussion of your identities, cultures, relationships, and experiences, including your experience of therapy itself, as it is happening. We’ll work to name how your experiences with structural oppression may have shaped your beliefs about yourself and how you cope. We’ll identify your strengths, and when it’s helpful, we’ll try out tools to support changes you may want to make.

My modality influences include: Relational, Narrative, Psychodynamic, DBT, Multicultural, Person-Centered.
Have you diligently worked to create a life that thrives, but still feel stuck by childhood or continuing harm? Is your past contributing to anxiety or depression in your current life? Often the coping strategies we form in childhood survive past their "effectiveness date," creating an invisible force that holds us back from thriving. In session, we will create a space for you to explore past, present, and hopes for the future. We will hold both harm and healing, as we create a framework for developing skills and a making adjustments that bring a freedom to thrive. Together we will forge a path that accounts for the beauty and harm.

My primary orientation is psychodynamic, with discrete behavioral tools introduced as appropriate.
I tend to see individuals who achieve success in school and in their careers, but retain a chronic and deep-seated feeling that something is missing. Often, these individuals have gotten by on exceptional logic with little sense that there can be more to their existence. They may be more comfortable doing as opposed to being, thinking as opposed to feeling, and helping as opposed to being helped. High standards commonly include high pressure to self-contain, which can cause immense, private suffering. I aim to provide these individuals with a fuller and more compassionate experience of themselves.

I have offered phone and internet video therapy for many years for those who lived outside my area, including people in other countries. I specialize in working with Asian and Asian Americans with a psychodynamic framework which is an evidence based approach to lasting change.
You are “highly functioning”. You have succeeded in most of the ways that were expected of you. Most people look to you for direction, leadership, and support. And, you have a different internal life. You feel resentful of all the obligations put on you. You struggle with intimacy. You feel alone despite having a large social network. You worry a lot. You have a hard time knowing what you need. You feel disconnected from yourself. You feel tired. You want more.

The program I graduated from is psychodynamic based.
My ideal client is someone who is curious about themselves and the relationships they cultivate. They notice some patterns or triggers in their lives but they aren't sure where they stem from or how to work with them. Perhaps they have been to therapy before and are looking for a more relational approach with deeper insights.

I am motivated by a desire to support people to make sense of what has happened to them across time, and to explore how their past experiences might be impacting their present lives. This has led me to focus on trauma-related issues, in particular the relationship between mind and body in response to traumatic experience. I have extensive experience working with PTSD, disrupted attachment, abandonment, losses and intergenerational trauma. I am trained in psychodynamic and Jungian psychotherapy and draw on approaches from other schools of psychology and modalities
