Feeling overwhelmed, depressed, on edge from anxiety or stressed? Perhaps you feel stuck, despite your efforts? You’re not alone. I’m here to help. Let’s be honest, sometimes we all need a little help & support, even if we’ve tried working on it for a while on our own. Life can be complex & hard at times. Sometimes we find ourselves facing issues of pain stemming from racism, poverty, and/or different types of trauma (including religious trauma). As a biracial & multicultural therapist (Latina/White/ Brazilian born), I would be honored to collaborate on how we can work together to get the relief or changes you desire.

My practice is deeply informed by my experiences as a mixed-race, multicultural, immigrant woman.
As our identities grow and shift as we move through life, it can be overwhelming to try and navigate those changes alone– especially when we feel like we're "supposed" to act, feel, or be a certain way. Those pressures may come from narratives that we’ve internalized from others, whether that be from our families, our peers, or society at large. My aim is to create a warm, collaborative, and affirming space where we can explore and bring awareness to the stories that make up your life narrative: celebrating the stories that honor your experiences and gently deconstructing the narratives that no longer serve you.

My main area of focus is viewing behavior through a multicultural lens, mixed with early attachment pattern influences and how it affects present day relationships.
‍‍I really am a child at heart. I see individuals as part of a larger system, via family, community and culture. I believe that the therapeutic alliance I make with my clients is really the heart of therapy and I have seen positive outcomes for my clients when they live confident, happy and healthy lives. Much of my practice focuses on empowering women of all ages to be the best version of themselves. Overall I strive to be the kindest human I can be as I firmly believe that it is the act of true kindness to ourselves and others that allows us the ability to thrive.

The thought of therapy can be confusing and maybe even a little intimidating. That’s why the root of therapy lies in the relationship between the client and therapist! No framework can replace the importance of a safe and collaborative relationship between a client and therapist. Together, we’ll foster an environment where you can rediscover your resilience, process your lived experiences, and work towards your goals. My true passion is working with couples and families as they navigate life’s challenges together. I specialize in supporting interracial and multicultural couples with communication and multicultural issues.

My multicultural and bilingual background supports a therapeutic environment that endeavors to be inclusive, hopeful, and strengths-based.
I believe that we were all born complete and whole, deserving of lives that are happy and healthy. The experience of being human is full of potential and it is also complicated and sometimes painful. There can be challenges and pitfalls along the way – sometimes making it difficult to flourish or have the lives and relationships we would ideally like. My goal as a therapist is to support my clients through a compassionate exploration of their experiences (present and past), paying close attention to the places where they may feel stuck as well as the places where they feel free.

My clients often have multicultural backgrounds that include gender issues, domestic violence, neurodiversity, trauma, addiction, anxiety and depression.
My ideal client wants to be engaged during therapy. My clients come prepared to do heavy work that is necessary to heal and move on from their issues. Overall, this takes the shape of mindfulness cognitive behavior therapy. This feminist-queer lens includes your intersectional identity, personal goals, individual growth speed, identity, religious background, ethnicity, race, sexuality, gender, social economic status, and social stratification.

Creating change in our minds, our relationships, and our society takes internal work. Without self-care, we can get burned out from feeling anxious about the world around us, coping with internalized oppression,or struggling with self-esteem. We are shaped by our feelings about ourselves and our surroundings. I use a multicultural feminist approach to explore these feelings, relationships, and process the effects of your social context. Therapy can be a safe space to support, challenge, and motivate you while you're doing the brave work of learning, growing and healing.

I utilize feminist, multicultural, and affirming approaches to help one better understand themselves and how they deal with day-to-day life.
I have experience working with young adults and adults from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, sexual, gender identities and backgrounds with a wide range of mental health concerns. Although I enjoy working with people of all backgrounds, I am particularly excited about working with emerging adults, LGBTQIA+, people who identify as being disabled, and neurodivergent folx. Many of my clients are in a state of adjustment and often just need someone to help them through new and emerging life obstacles.

My support is often sought by clients who identify as multicultural, LGBTQIA2S+, BIPOC, neurodivergent folx, and anyone who feels like an "outsider" or who doesn't fit neatly into any category.
I’m passionate about finding a pathway for you to be the most authentic and empowered version of yourself. Together, we will explore tools and strategies to overcome roadblocks created by self-limiting beliefs, trauma, oppressive social structures and intergenerational patterns that prevent your full expression as a human being: at times, these roadblocks can even show-up as symptoms of anxiety or depression. Through this work, I will support you in having a more meaningful connection with yourself, with others, and with life as a whole.

Taking New Clients: Everyone has the essential ingredients for positive change. Individuals and couples who seek my support are in a difficult moment or intersection in life; seeking resolution between internal and external pressures; seeking satisfaction and harmony in relationships, identity, career, society, etc. I support clients who seek to deepen and broaden their perspective on who they are and who they want to become by examining self-limiting narratives, refining self-mastery, and cultivating self-compassion. BIPOC and multicultural clients often seek my support as well as those who want more from therapy than just insight.

Multicultural Therapists

What type of therapy is multicultural therapy?

Multicultural therapy is not tied to any specific therapy; rather, it is an overarching approach to therapy that aims to acknowledge and address the influence that factors like race, gender identity, and cultural background can have on someone’s life. Multicultural approaches can be applied to CBT, psychodynamic therapy, and others, and can be practiced with individuals, couples, families, or groups.

What can I expect from multicultural therapy?

Multicultural counseling should be tailored to the client’s unique identity and cultural needs. Such approaches often prioritize the building of trust so that the client feels comfortable exploring various aspects of their identity and any challenges caused by mismatches between their identity and the dominant culture. Beyond that, the format and timeline of therapy will be heavily influenced by the therapist’s preferred therapy approach and the specific problems for which the client sought therapy.

Can multicultural therapy help treat trauma?

Yes. Cultural factors such as racial background, gender identity and or sexuality, and immigration or refugee status can influence both whether someone experiences trauma and how they cope afterward. Multicultural approaches to trauma-informed care will be aware of these influences, helping the client recognize how their response to trauma may be shaped by their cultural background and identify coping mechanisms that take their identity into account.

What are the benefits of seeing a multicultural therapist?

Members of minority groups who seek therapy are sometimes frustrated by providers who don’t understand their cultural background or dismiss the ways in which race, gender, or other facets of their identity influence their lived experience. Seeing a multicultural therapist can help these clients feel seen, understood, and able to develop solutions to life challenges that take their upbringing, beliefs, and past experiences into account.
