I utilize evidence-based modalities such as Dialectical behavioral therapy methods, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy.
An ideal client is one who is ready to be honest with me about what's really going on. What they're really feeling. A person who is ready to turn over some stones and see what's really underneath life challenges. A person who is ready to utilize the skills and tools they learn in therapy and actively incorporate them into their daily lives. Their issues may seem varied but from my experience we are all trying to get our basic needs met and when they're not we become disturbed. Let's find effective ways to get your needs met. Cope with the unexpected challenges of life and navigate toward a life you dreamed of having.

The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear. -Nelson Mandela. Sometimes we really want growth, change and/or to just feel better, but the fear of change is real. Men, in particular men of color, find seeking help as a sign of weakness. One of the bravest things you could ever do and the rewards are limitless when you face this challenge. My goal as a therapist is to provide a supportive space where you can develop the skills necessary to enhance the quality of your life, heal from trauma and shame, and begin to live in greater alignment with your values. Using a strength-based therapeutic style centered around your knowledge and experience allows us to find strategies that will support you in managing unwanted symptoms. I also use Dialectical Behavior Therapy approaches to address general problems with emotions, relationships, and habits.
People often consider therapy because they want to achieve a goal (satisfying job, rewarding relationships) or because they have had an experience they want to talk through in private. I consider therapy a success when you leave feeling capable of being your own therapist. I work on a client’s capacity to independently manage their feelings and problems. I want you to be able to adapt to reality on its own terms so that you can build a meaningful and sustainable life. To do this I take an approach that is interactive, transparent, and conversational. I am currently licensed in California, Washington, Oregon, and Texas.

My practice is based on an integrated approach that combines Mindfulness, Humanistic/Existential therapy, Attachment theory, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Dialectical Behavior therapy and Acceptance Commitment Therapy.
CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENT! Are you living your best life? Do you sense your life has become unmanageable? Do you struggle in relationships? If your story contains themes of depression, anxiety, addiction, interpersonal issues or just "seem to be stuck right now"; lets have a conversation to see how I can help you to create a better story. I'm a therapist, but I'm also a parent and wife who makes plenty of mistakes. Luckily, perfection isn't necessary or desirable. It often takes only small, positive changes to yield significant benefits. Things can get better, sometimes quickly, if you begin taking steps in the right direction.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
