Art therapy and brainspotting offer the means to process more deeply than words alone.
I work with youth and adults presenting with relationship, family and school challenges. Kids I meet with experience "meltdowns," anxiety, and often identify as neurodiverse. Adults I see find their own attachment glitches activated in moments of greater demand with their kids.

I use a mix of Brainspotting, EMDR, TRE (Tension/Trauma Releasing Exercises), Somatic Experiencing, IFS, Flash Technique and mindfulness.
Is anxiety, depression, complex grief, or chronic stress preventing you from feeling present in your life? Have you done a lot of therapy but continue to find yourself feeling stuck, hopeless, or full of dread? Are you struggling with chronic health conditions that don't seem to respond to traditional interventions or can't be explained by conventional medicine? My time as a healing professional has reinforced the awareness that trauma and chronic stress are stored not just in our minds, but in our bodies and nervous systems as well. That is often why talk therapy is just not enough.

Success will be achieved through a combination of therapeutic modalities such as; Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting Therapy, HeartMath and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Mike will primarily utilize EMDR therapy and/or Brainspotting therapy to help people/athletes overcome common mental and emotional symptoms that can impede progress, performance, or welness. Example of these performance block can be: fear, uncertainty, intrusive thoughts, inability to execute muscle memory movements, feeling of being locked, stuck, or frozen, anxiety, inconsistency, avoidance, frustration and depression. I am also seeing people who have trauma and addiction backgrounds. I'd love to work together to bring awareness to causes of being stuck, and freeing yourself from these anchors.

I am trained in Brainspotting which is used to address unprocessed trauma using your visual field.
Not all people need therapy long term. I believe therapy should be individualized to the person and collaborative. My goal as a therapist is to create a space in which you can transition to your life outside of the therapy room. I strongly believe in attunement and connection as being imperative to feel seen and validated which encourages growth and healing. Being witnessed allows us to deeply process issues, identify and attune to our individual needs to make progress toward your goals. Intrinsically, we have the tools to promote integration and wellness, but may require support, and experience validation in order to flourish.

My practice is influenced by a variety of orientations including EMDR, Brainspotting, mind-body connection, and solution-focused therapy.
Therapy provides us space to recognize that regardless of our unique experiences, we all possess innate resilience. My focus is supporting clients in moving beyond merely surviving and towards joy, connection and liberation in order to truly thrive. My practice centers working with people of color, marginalized communities and allies to find healing and growth from depression, trauma, racism based stress, anxiety and burnout. I bring an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, social justice lens to my work. I have spent my career helping young adults feel safe, seen and understood.

Some common methods include EMDR, DBT, emotionally focused therapy, IFT, and brainspotting.
I have done some of my best work therapeutically with clients who have a hard time being kind to themselves. I've found that patterns of self-criticism or even self-harm often, though not always, originate in dynamics that were present at home growing up. Challenges from childhood, adolescence and young adulthood can continue to affect your daily life, including your functioning and relationships, and I'm here to help. I'm proud to work with members of the LGBTQ+ communities.

I have specific training in Brainspotting, EMDR, sandtray therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Tapas Acupuncture Technique (TAT).
Everybody has a story. Often our stories about ourselves and others are formulated when we are very young, trying to make sense of what is going on around us. These stories are often untrue. However, the negative narrative continues into adulthood. I use therapy approaches and techniques that help clients re-author a different story about themselves, others and events that might have occurred. When this healing process occurs, I am inspired as a witness to my clients' transformation as they take steps from struggle to healing. I have been in practice for over 30 years and am a provider on most private insurance plans.

I can help you understand your needs and apply evidence-based interventions including Brainspotting.
If you have experienced anxiety, you know how awful it can feel at times. Like a ghost, it can come from nowhere and you suddenly have knots in your stomach or shaky hands, chest constriction, or worse - you may feel like passing out or throwing up. There are lots of helpful skills to deal with anxiety once you know the symptoms. Yet anxiety is not always seen for what it is. It can hide behind angry outbursts, procrastination, compulsive behaviors, insecurity, self-deprecation, and tendencies to please others. Yet sometimes, anxiety is a messenger of deeper truths and hidden wounds.

I come from a trauma-informed strengths-based approach to trauma processing with Brainspotting therapy, and "parts" approaches.
Growing up in a dysfunctional family, being in a toxic or abusive relationship, or experiencing the horrors of a traumatic event can set you on a collision course with daily triggers to anger, sadness, overwhelm, panic, or dissociation. Maybe you notice your reactions in your relationships are causing harm, and you regularly experience the dreaded “shame spiral.” You minimize your pain, or others regularly do. If this is you, I’m glad you’re here. Long-term healing is possible. Even if only a small part of you hopes for change, I'm confident it's enough to start the journey toward a peaceful and thriving life.

I tailor interventions for each client, drawing on somatic practices, parts work (IFS), and experiential techniques like EMDR and Brainspotting.
I’m passionate about working with folks who want to process past trauma and relearn how to feel safe in the present. I frequently work with people who grew up in dysfunctional families, and have experienced neglect and abuse in close relationships. These experiences often lead to secondary challenges such as depression, anxiety, and relational concerns. I work with clients who are eager to reconnect to their authentic selves & feel ready to dive into this process with dedication and courage.

Brainspotting Therapists

How does brainspotting work?

Brainspotting works by using eye positioning to identify and process traumatic memories so that a client is better able to move forward and live with less fear. The theory behind brainspotting is that by identifying where a person looks when thinking of traumatic memories, a therapist will be able to guide them to focus on that spot and work with the client to get them out of the “fight, flight, freeze” response associated with the traumatic memory.

Is brainspotting an evidence-based therapy?

Brainspotting is a theory-based alternative therapy. It is one of the newest forms of treatment, so very little research has been completed that examines the mechanism by which it works. The theory behind brainspotting is that eye position can be linked to areas of the brain that store and process memory.

How effective is brainspotting?

Because it is such a new treatment, the effectiveness of brainspotting cannot be quantified. Some people have found it to be effective on its own, or in conjunction with other types of therapy. It is considered an alternative therapy, and it is popular with people for whom more traditional therapies have proven ineffective.

How long does brainspotting take to work?

A typical brainspotting session will last between 60 to 90 minutes. There is no required number of sessions needed to complete brainspotting therapy, but in many cases it is delivered over the course of about six sessions. Clients are encouraged to rate their level of distress prior to a session and again following a session, and to track progress.
