I believe that everyone has the basic human rights for self-development which include the right to autonomy, self-care, and healthy relationships. I uphold this belief by listening actively to the goals of my client and assisting them to achieve their greatest potential for mental wellness through a therapeutic approach in which I blend adaptive belief strengthening, challenging negative core beliefs, psychoeducation, skills training, utilization of natural supports, and supportive reflection and validation.

I believe that much of what we think, feel, and believe is outside of our immediate awareness. Much of the time we think our conscious mind is 'driving the bus' so to speak, yet it is our unconscious that grips the wheel and drives us down roads we have unwittingly been down many times before. We develop beliefs of the self, of others, and of the world in general based on experiences we have earlier in life, often outside of our current awareness. These unexamined beliefs can prevent us from experiencing ourself and others in a healthy and authentic manner.

I use a person-centered and trauma-informed approach to therapy that draws on techniques from attachment theory, somatic therapy, EMDR, CBT and others that align with your unique needs, values and goals.

People often seek out therapy when they are in relief of mental and emotional pain. I believe much of this pain is rooted in attachment failures in childhood which then branch out into how you see yourself, relate to others, etc. Ways you may have managed this pain no longer seem to be working. This crisis of sorts is an opportunity for deeper understanding, transformation and wholeness of self. Therapy can be a vehicle for achieving this. I have expertise treating mood disorders, trauma, low self-esteem, anxiety and relational difficulties. I tend to work well with clients who are open, curious and motivated for change.

We can sometimes feel uncertain and trapped by painful emotions. Having a non-judgmental, supportive space to think through what feels wrong can be helpful. We are able to make new meaning when someone listens, helps us focus in on what is important, understands our challenges, and supports us to grasp more of who we really are. We begin to understand our own stories and shed new light on older, outdated narratives. We untangle from the repetitive pain we impose on our selves, family, partners, friends, and begin to take charge of our lives.

As a counselor, I'm here to help. I am humbled to be of service helping you grow, heal, and learn from the challenges you face. It is my experience that people often come to counseling, " tangled up " from their own experiences, thoughts and feelings. Just the act of giving that gift of counseling support to yourself, taking time out from your daily life, and creating that space for reflection can bring immediate and lasting relief.

I believe that people are doing the best they can with the information and skills they have. Sometimes even with these skills, life can feel unmanageable, especially during this time when many people are struggling with loneliness and existential anxieties. I believe people can grow and create better lives for themselves with the appropriate support and a space to process. My approach to therapy is client-centered and systemic, with a focus on validation and gaining new skills.

Fast heartbeat, stomach in knots. Worry has become your constant companion. Right now, everything feels as if it's covered in a veil of "what-if's." The hopelessness and depression are growing. In the midst of it all, it can seem as if there's no way out, that these emotions will last forever. You're so tired of life feeling dreary, tiresome and hopeless. The anxiety and sadness have gone on for far too long. It's a lonely and isolating place to be. You can't help but wonder, "How long can I go on this way?!" There is hope. Therapy can help anyone, including you! Armed with the right tools, you can overcome fear and sadness.
