My studies in Psychology, behavioral health, and counseling aim to gain the knowledge and skills and implement effective mental health counseling and behavior change coaching.
Reaching out for help demonstrates inner strength and willingness to face various life challenges. As an immigrant, accessing resources and services that feel inclusive and culturally sensitive is challenging. My journey in healing as an individual, a mother, and a caring community member has sparked a desire to provide culturally sensitive care to people from all walks of life. Although many clients have experienced marginalization due to their background as an immigrant (BIPOC, MENA, AMEMSA), other clients have realized numerous privileges in their life and felt a sense of inclusion and reconciliation within the larger community.

Are you struggling with your child's behavior? Are big tantrums taking over your day? Do you wonder if there is something wrong with your child, or you? I can help. I understand that some children are harder than others. You're not a bad parent, you may just need different tools than the other parents you see at the park or grocery store. Parenting a child with big behaviors is not easy, it sometimes feels downright awful, and is often lonely. It can get better. With the right tools your relationship with your child can and will change. Without judgement I will walk alongside you and your family as you create the life you want.

Accepting New Clients! Hello and welcome! Life can present various challenges, transitions, and stressors that can be overwhelming at times – perhaps you are searching for help with: grief, anxiety, depression, PTSD, or trauma; family conflict/parenting issues; unhealthy personal or professional relationships; child/teen with behavioral problems; or generational trauma or racial discrimination. I acknowledge the difficulty one may have with seeking help. This may be due to historical stigmas, masculinity associated with being male, or the feeling of “needing to do it all” and not having your power acknowledged or honored as a woman.

My work with families focuses on the unique challenges of: adoption, involvement with the foster care system, the effect of children on the couples' relationship, co-parenting and shared custody, infertility, blended families, divorce/separation, behavior challenges specific to young children or children with developmental delays.
All families experience transitions, and even positive change can cause stress. I employ an eclectic approach with a strong emphasis on attachment, structural, and solution-focused family therapies. I work with young children and their caregivers to form secure attachments early on. This leads to more effective communication and problem solving patterns and a higher level of resilience down the road. My work tends to be short term and builds on the existing strengths of your family. My work with couples is attachment informed as we look at past and current relationships to elucidate our most fulfilling ways of connecting.

I primarily used trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy and narrative therapy to help clients understand their stories, uncover thinking and behavioral errors, and begin their journeys to a more ideal life.
Therapy is something that should make room for you to be you, not just in the session, but in its outcome. People are constantly bombarded with competing pressures to be, think, and/or act a certain way in multiple settings, all while having the pressure of what the future could be put on them. I believe that therapy should be a safe space to explore all of the issues that may exist everywhere in our lives where good intentions are assumed in a caring, kind, and in an emotionally safe environment. Come as you are, and bring your humor. I will let you all know that I will challenge you and give homework from time to time.

Behavioral Issues Therapists

What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?

No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.

What therapy types help with behavioral issues?

Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.

How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?

Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.

How effective is therapy for behavior issues?

Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
