"...Psychotherapy...is as varied as hu man individuals. Treat every patient as individual as possible...the solution of the problem is always an individual one," wrote CG Jung. While living our lives we all go through periods of struggle and difficulty. From time to time help is needed in the form of counseling to assimilate and integrate the problems, and/or otherwise painful emotions. My approach to therapy is hu manistic and client centered. I value each person as an individual. I will work collaboratively with you to nurture and support the healing and changes you envision for yourself.

My approach to therapy is trauma-informed and integrative, drawing on my knowledge of a variety of therapeutic models while being rooted in hu manistic, cognitive-behavioral, and emotionally-focused psychotherapies.
Were you taught that certain feelings were invalid and unacceptable? Do you feel stuck in a role that limits you? Maybe you're just burnt out and exhausted. I can help you improve your relationship with yourself and others, work through old traumas, and/or free yourself from feelings of depression and anxiety.

I have experience working with individuals who have depression, anxiety, experienced trauma and/or currently struggling to cope with a range of symptoms that might include PTSD, shame, relationship stress, self-esteem, and addiction. I operate from contextual behaviorist approach as well as utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with my clients. I am also well versed in the 12-step recovery and have found that incredibly important in my work with individuals and family members affected by the disease of addiction.

These treatments encourage the brain (and the body) to process the negative emotion so the issues at hand feel significantly more "in the background" and manageable.
Hello, I am a therapist who specializes in trauma and trauma-related issues. I have worked successfully with many people who struggle to fully heal from past difficulties from different periods of their lives. I have also helped individuals who have faced family transitions, or emotionally damaging situations from childhood, or early childhood. There is not just one single issue or symptom that I work with; instead I have found that trauma can present itself in many different ways. Depression, anxiety, relational problems, shame, avoidance, and addictions (to name a few), all can result from past losses and emotional wounds.

When you are not understanding each other & when you think your relationships are stuck or damaged, an objective & experienced family coach could help. If going to a family therapy office is any barrier, discreet video telecounseling sessions or phone calls from your home might be the solution to start to understand each other & rebuild your relationships stronger than ever. Individuals who are considering/ready to make personal changes will also find nonjudgmental coaching & support in clarifying & "operationalizing" their goals & understanding themselves better. I bring my therapist experience when older 'scars' are discovered.

Allow me to assist you on becoming a more cohesive and aligned hu man that you envision yourself to become one day.
A client who is ready to face uncertainties in their life and embrace the journey. Clients that willing to sit with tough times and not aspiring to evade them will make for a less resistant path in the grand scheme of things. Aspiring to develop a more introspective side of themselves and critically think about how their day to day choices and their environment may be a reflection of their direction moving forward. Through trauma, addiction, behavioral, or relationship issues, if the client is able to look inward rather than around them, an undiscovered depth will now become visible. Consistency is more important than perfection!

The hu man experience presents unique challenges, opportunities, victories, and struggles for us all; we experience life and our feelings on various spectrums in shared systems: Sometimes the universal feelings of sadness become clinical depression. Sometimes the universal feeling of nervousness can become clinical anxiety. We describe difficulties in processing life events in terms of trauma. We look at compounding impact of transitions as stress. Therapy presents a unique opportunity to join with a trained helper in a safe environment for growth, healing, and change: both in feeling differently and exploring life changes.

Do you worry constantly, have a persistent fear of failure or judgement and feel on edge with just about anything? Feeling like you’re not good enough, not living the life you want to live, or that you’ve lost touch with the things that bring you happiness? Have you had a traumatic experience that left you feeling disconnected and having a hard time trusting people, with the need to protect and numb yourself? These things can impact our physical and mental wellbeing, keep us up at night, make us feel disconnected from the people closest to us and reduce our ability to achieve what we want in life.

I'm going to be real with you, genuine hu man to hu man conversations.
An ideal client is one who is ready to be honest with me about what's really going on. What they're really feeling. A person who is ready to turn over some stones and see what's really underneath life challenges. A person who is ready to utilize the skills and tools they learn in therapy and actively incorporate them into their daily lives. Their issues may seem varied but from my experience we are all trying to get our basic needs met and when they're not we become disturbed. Let's find effective ways to get your needs met. Cope with the unexpected challenges of life and navigate toward a life you dreamed of having.

During my clinical experience, I have encountered working with issues around anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, men’s issues, and social anxiety.
Life can be full of stress, grief, and suffering, and as hu man beings, it can be challenging for us to navigate through all of the negative thoughts, emotions, and experiences that we encounter. Coming from a Hu manistic and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy background, my approach to psychotherapy focuses on getting to know you and your unique experience so that we as a team can find better ways for you to live the life that you want to live. I believe that you are the expert of your own experience and I hope to create a space where you can authentically express yourself in a safe environment that is free of judgment.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
