I work with people having a wide range of concerns. Areas of specialty include identity formation, relationship dynamics, loss, and issues of spirituality (both questioning and growth). I work especially well with persons who are curious about themselves and their ways of interacting with the world. I practice relationally-based psychoanalytic psychotherapy; meaning that, where relevant, we talk about relationships in your life impacting your way of navigating the world. We have each found ways to survive our world as best we can; at some point, we may consider wanting to shift these ways because they do not work as well as they once did.

I work systemically and holistically, which means that together we will explore biological, social, spiritual and cultural influences that have shaped you. The challenges you face are deeply embedded in the context of your experiences, but within your experiences also lie your unique set of strengths that offer opportunities for change. My approach is curious and creative and I will help challenge existing ways of viewing yourself so that you can let go of what is no longer working. I work with individuals, couples and families and make use of Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Somatic Psychology and Mindfulness based practices.

My intention is to provide a safe and compassionate container for you to feel seen, heard, and understood. A supportive space guides you toward slowing down and turning inward to tap into your true self. I believe the most beautiful gift you can offer the world is your fully aware, individuated, and integrated self, which allows you to cultivate genuine connections with yourself, others, and the world around you. I weave together my background in social science research and yoga movement therapy with mindfulness-based, body-centered therapies such as Transpersonal, Hakomi, and Gestalt to be with what's arising for you right now.

Hi! I am so glad you are here. My approach is direct, nurturing and connective. I believe in the capacity to grow and to become our best selves. I incorporate psychodynamic talk therapy to understand the stuck points, while incorporating mindfulness and somatic work to connect the mind and body. Additionally, I acknowledge that oppression exists within marginalized communities, thus treating the individual in a social context.

As a therapist, I am a firm believer that all people have the ability to learn, adapt and grow through their relationship to themselves, and others, in compassionate and productive ways. I believe that each client knows their lived experience best and that there is inherent value in understanding larger societal forces that affect our interactions, relationships and lives. As a multilingual and multicultural person, I provide culturally relevant therapy and facilitate a sustainable, non-judgmental experience in my practice.

I trust that whatever appears in the mind, body, and emotions has its purpose and wants to be deeply heard, honored, understood, and embraced; that all the Psyche expresses are attempts toward our wholeness and realizing the jewel of our Essential Being. With this compassion and care, healing can unfold, patterns and beliefs transformed, and we can live our true potential and purpose, innate wisdom, and experience happiness, peace, and joy.

I pull largely from my experiences with Buddhist Meditation and Psychodynamic Therapy. I typically begin by helping people with anxiety, depression and/or compulsive behaviors. As these begin to improve, some people want to move further into unconscious material related to attachment, trauma and shadow work. I also lead psychotherapy groups for those wanting to engage in emotional work with other growth-minded individuals (See below).

Stress comes in many forms in our daily lives. When we get bogged down with memories from our past, or worries about our future, we become unable to fully participate in the present. My goal is to empower you to live as your most authentic self by creating a collaborative therapeutic atmosphere where you are the expert on your own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I utilize a cognitive-behavioral, strength-based, and solution-focused approach to help you explore and identify what's working, what you would like to change, and potential strategies to achieve your goals.

My clients often come into therapy feeling some version of stuck: whether in a relationship, a perspective, or a pattern of behavior. My psychodynamic training has taught me it’s important to understand why this stuckness is happening, but how we manage our thoughts and feelings is equally important, so I like to use a blend of therapeutic modalities to tailor my approach to each client. I also love working with new and expecting fathers. It's common to experience a complex flood of emotions including anger, grief, and fear, and I find there is often great need for support during this significant phase of life transition.

I have tremendous admiration for people who are willing to show up for themselves and take on the work that leads to growth. With such gratitude and sincerity, I offer you a space to connect, be listened to, and learn more about yourself. Clients describe me as down-to-earth, easygoing, and truly genuine. They find they can be themselves with me, build trust, and do the work they'd like to do with self-reflection and skill development to learn how to have corrective emotional experiences with others that improve their relationships and quality of life.

We all have our own story, the things that make us unique in the tapestry of human experiences. What motivates me in counseling people is how we cope with trauma, overcome adversity, and our resilience in the face of difficult circumstances. Finding a way to create meaning, and live a full authentic life is central to my goals in supporting clients. I focus on existential and feminist frameworks to support clients in developing their sense of worth and purpose in life. Working with me we will address attachment and relational dynamics, boundaries and the patterns present in your life that may be keeping you “stuck.”

I support clients navigating grief, relationship challenges, and those seeking neurodiversity-affirming support. Those who have experienced pain, disappointment, and distress from experiences in faith communities are especially drawn to my work. It is also important to acknowledge how isolating it can be to pause, deconstruct, or reconsider long-held beliefs or spiritual practices that once held a lot of hope and meaning. Or, to simply explore how embracing your full humanity and identity can be celebrated after experiences of being shamed for those aspects of you.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
