It can be incredibly difficult to live a fulfilling life when your mind seems to be working against you. Most of the people I work with struggle with repetitive and unwanted thoughts, images, and emotions. As a result, their lives have unintentionally become more focused on avoiding certain thoughts or feelings and less focused on connecting with their loved ones, values, and life goals. As a therapist, I find it incredibly rewarding to help people learn and practice effective strategies that get them back to doing more of what gives their lives meaning.

I provide focused, time-limited psychotherapy for individuals who are stuck and who want to make changes in their lives. This approach allows my clients to make real and impactful changes over a relatively short period of time. My commitment is to help the people I work with live lives that are more meaningful and fulfilling. I utilize empirically supported treatments, particularly Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, an evidence-based therapy. Most importantly, I strive to always treat clients with dignity, respect, and compassion as I work to help them create for themselves the kind of meaningful life they desire.

I believe we are all working to live the healthiest lives we can for ourselves, our families and our community. At times it can be difficult to find balance or we can become stuck in situations that we can't seem to find our way out of. I work with you to identify what support or changes you want to experience in your life to help return to a healthy lifestyle. I use your language to explore the situations and support skill building. All treatment goals are identified with you in session.

I think of my approach to helping people as a collaborative and educational one. Most people who come in for therapy are wanting to make a change in their lives but are struggling in some manor. I feel that the best way to implement change is through one's thoughts (cognitions), feelings, and behaviors-this kind of approach is known as Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (CBT). A person needs to welcome the challenges and opportunities in his or her life with a clear and calm mind - These are the cognitive and behavioral aspects of CBT.

Over time, we all develop stories and ideas about ourselves, others, or the world. For some of us, these ideas may be born from experiences of marginalization and harm based on who we are; maybe we begin to believe we’re not good enough, not worthy of love, or there’s something wrong with us. Even if these stories were meant to, and probably did, protect us at some time, they're still exhausting to deal with and can lead to lots of worrying and stress, avoidance, numbing, or difficulty in our relationships. You've likely been trying your best to manage it all and are ready try something different.

What we are looking for in life is often right in front of us yet, we often lack the ability to see it. In contemporary society, many of us are head strong putting the mind and thoughts above the body and feelings. In this manner, we may lose ourselves in a world of mental illusion. When we are able to access our inner nature, comprised in part of our instincts, aptitudes, and intuition, we are more equipped to be self-guided in life and able to achieve balance and wholeness for ourselves.

I'm a Certified Gottman Therapist with extensive training in conflict management, improving communication, and rebuilding trust. I've also noticed that deciding to go to therapy tends tconjure up every TV or movie depiction of a client and therapist sitting in a dimly lit room while the client talks and talks about their problems. They never show the actual work that is necessary for real change to happen. They just show weekly sessions, and BOOM… an epiphany is made and they’re all better. Sadly, many of us have been in therapy on and off for years, mistakenly thinking that this was all that was necessary. You want more than that.

I am accepting new clients at this time in WA, OR and ID. I offer a relaxed atmosphere in therapy where humor and lightheartedness can be incorporated into our professional relationship, when appropriate. I work with individuals, teens and couples who are seeking positive change in their lives and relationships. Ultimately, you will get the best idea of what a therapist is like by meeting them, so I encourage you to reach out to set up a free 15 minute consultation so that we might meet and see if we are a good fit. Research shows that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most reliable predictors of therapeutic effectiveness.

I love chatting with people about life- the highs and lows, and everything along the way. I can bring a grounded perspective to our conversations, as well as new ideas around things that may be on your mind. There are many angles that we could use in our work together. We could speak archetypally, transpersonally - holding the big picture in mind. We could use the language of psychology - I love sharing theoretical constructs that might be useful as we walk along our paths in life. We could just chat as one human to another, in a down-to-earth, connective way.
