The common misconception is that therapy is for "crazy" or "sick" people. Instead I believe it is a chance to work with clients on how to use their challenges as opportunities for change and growth. It is also a time to better understand our view of the world, examine any relationship issues, and become better versions of ourselves. I focus on each individual's unique characteristics, instead of what a diagnosis may say about them.

My specialties include addiction and recovery, relationship dynamics (couples, poly, open, kink), LGBTQIAA identity, family of origin, SPMI, sex work, and healing from trauma.
I believe the most important parts of therapy are trust and collaboration. You'll know immediately if the therapist is right for you. If you don't feel it, keep looking. There's a lot of us therapists out here and your time and self-work are important! Additionally, at our most vulnerable times in life, we need someone who will hold a safe space for us to approach our edges - the parts of us we tend to avoid or neglect. Addressing our 'issues' is intensely brave and can also be terrifying! I commend you for embarking on this journey and invite you to call me if my words resonate with your needs.

Honestly, relationships are at the core of who we are. Whether it’s your relationship with yourself, your partner, your children, or your friends... when these bonds are healthy, they help you thrive and heal many wounds. But sometimes conflict can get in the way of what you want for your life and relationships. That may be trauma, beliefs that hurt instead of help, new mental health symptoms, or behaviors that aren’t working for you - most of these stem from some kind of relationship. My role is to come alongside you and help you learn new ways to understand and relate to these struggles.

If you are: experiencing significant conflict and miscommunication in your relationships, finding yourself longing to have a better relationship with your children, spouse or other important people in your life, or if you are feeling lost or confused as the world changes and you are facing new or unexpected situations, then let's talk! There is HOPE!.
Assisting individuals, couples, parents and families with the challenges of life is a privilege and a passion! However, learning to manage and improve relationships can bring about significant satisfaction, confidence and joy. We are also often faced with the anxiety and fear of transitions and unexpected life changes. I am here to help you navigate these challenges!

Whether you want to work on a more connected relationship (mono or poly), are a middle aged man who’s always been skeptical of therapy, are a queer emerging adult trying to be yourself in a more conservative family/community, or are the family matriarch looking to redefine yourself & the path you’re on, you deserve a supportive space to sort it all out.
For most of us, these last few years have involved a dumpster fire or 3. That, on top of whatever other stuff is weighing you down is a lot to carry. You're human. You have your best self, worst self, & most days are somewhere in between. We’ll look at your patterns & decide which are serving you well & which you want to shift. My goal is to normalize your messiness & then help you untangle it, so you can connect with your underlying needs & feel good about getting them met. By getting in touch with your body’s innate wisdom, you will learn to better trust yourself, simplify your communication, & feel more connected with others.

I believe that the client-therapist relationship is an important anchor in therapy.
To consult, visit: awakenedheartpdx.com/book-with-us .. Therapy connects you to your authentic self, an act of self-love. It is a leap of reconnection to the deeper layers within you that fuel growth, acceptance and contentment. I offer tools to support you as you evolve, optimizing your present moment. With a psychodynamic lens, I can connect you to the various "selfs" you've inhabited through the years. And with mindfulness, I connect you to awakening your full self, shedding limiting beliefs and reframing narratives. Whether your needs are focused on short-term, or long-term, I welcome them.

I specialize in trauma therapies (EMDR trained, Polyvagal Informed), ADHD, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, stress, and burnout.
Life can often feel like an obstacle course. A whirlwind of challenges pushing the limits of our most vital resources (time, attention, and energy). If you are feeling the strain, feeling drained from the battle- you are not alone. If you feel like distressing emotions are taking you for a ride, negative self-talk and beliefs are bombarding your self-esteem, persistent worries keep taking you out of the moment, difficulty concentrating and low energy are messing up your motivation, navigating conflict is stealing your thunder, learning to build healthy boundaries and deep connections seems damn-near impossible, I hope we can talk.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
