Accepting new clients both in person and via telehealth. Are you a deeply emotional person? Do you get sensory overload? Are you experiencing burnout, body pains or illness that doctors think is not medically explained? I practice a mixture of somatic therapy and parts work. Somatic helps you integrate your body and emotions in a way that is not overwhelming. Parts work is about understanding yourself in a way that promotes having a positive relationship with yourself. I love to help clients know and accept themselves through gaining deeper awareness of their internal systems.

I am an art therapist, qualified mental health professional, and specialize in addiction. I believe in helping empower you to solve your own problems through cultivating confidence, positive regard, and gaining power over thought distortions. I believe that experiential learning through the art making process and the therapeutic relationship can help one increase their ability for creative problem solving, self soothing, thought exploration, emotional expression, somatic processing, healthy communication, and reflective distance. I believe in dealing with the complexity of this world through utilizing chaos theory.

“We don’t have to do all of it alone. We were never meant to.” Brenée Brown We are resilient human beings who go through life trying not to be too banged up, and sometimes we get broken. There is a Japanese art form that I love called Kintsugi, where one fixes the broken pot with gold or silver to highlight where it was once broken and thus rendering it beautiful again. Trauma and addiction make us feel like we are broken inside, I work with you to apply your gold or silver highlights.

Our significant relationships and life history have shaped our individual beliefs and behaviors. Often times those beliefs and behaviors prove to be limiting and may keep us stuck. At times, we find ourselves anxious or depressed, stressed in our relationships and out of balance. By increasing awareness and healthy living skills, counseling offers an opportunity to change your circumstances and/or your response to them.

In my experience as a mental health therapist, I have had the honor and privilege to be a part of a person’s life who is struggling with mental health. At a young age, I always had an interest and curiosity in the people I encountered in my life, and this continues to hold true to this day. I am continually amazed and inspired by the courage and resiliency of people. We are all in this beautiful life together and sometimes we just need additional support to help us navigate our complicated world. I am a “think outside the box” kind of therapist and will build treatment plans based upon your needs and what works for you.

Everyone goes through periods of struggle in their lives. Maybe it's the stress of a major life change or fear of what the future will hold. Perhaps you find yourself stuck in the past, or in an addiction/compulsive behavior and you feel alone and powerless to control it. Or, maybe you feel abandoned, angry, and/or confused about how you fit into our increasingly polarized society. Wherever it is you find yourself, you know life is not supposed to feel like this. You are not alone; I can help you walk out of the dark valley you find yourself in.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
