I am passionate about well-being. For some, that might mean healing from trauma or growth into the person you want to become. It might mean understanding how to have a happier, healthy relationship with a parent, partner or child. I believe that every person is worthy of a life that is fully-alive and I am dedicated to partnering with people in their journey toward their vision of well-being. I provide clients with a safe, confidential and affirming environment in which they can explore their story, consider what is meaningful to them, cultivate their personal strengths and apply new insights and growth.

I currently have a few openings (primarily daytime) and a small wait list (no paperwork required to be on the wait list). I enjoy clients who come to me with complex concerns, who are looking for something other than a cookie cutter experience. My focus is on helping you work through the things that aren’t working for you. My goal is to meet you where you are and walk with you through your journey. You are the driver of our therapeutic car and I step into the passenger seat. I guide you using many different techniques/therapy styles and you are the one completely in control.

As we all witness life, we know it can be extremely hard. It can feel even more daunting at certain points along the way, especially when feeling alone. The suffering of the human heart is something that needs to be heard and explored. As I walk alongside you in your therapy, I offer you a space that you can call yours, and say the hard things out loud without the fear of judgment or bias.My therapeutic approach is eclectic with emphasis on mindfulness-based practices, which brings attention to the deeper self. I believe in addressing the way suffering manifests by confronting its existence.

Do any of these comments sound familiar? “You’re too emotional.” “You’re so dramatic.” “Why can’t you just let it go?” “You’re so sensitive!” Do you struggle to cope without going to extremes? Too many people haven’t been taught how to cope with the struggles of life in healthy, effective ways and instead find any possible way to feel better, as quickly as possible. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in particular can help you learn these vital skills to begin building the life you choose. If you’re tired of being stuck in suffering and emotional pain, I’d like to help you find your way through.

Seeking out mental health treatment is a supreme act of valor. It takes a great deal of courage to acknowledge when depression, anxiety, and PTSD are causing your life to be unmanageable. We all need someone to witness what it means to be human. Thank you for considering me as someone to walk down the path of healing with you.

Yes, I am accepting new clients! Are you in a relationship that isn't what you hoped it would be? Are you trying to heal from the pain of infidelity? Is your child acting out, and do you not know why? Are you anxious or depressed? Do you have trouble saying no to people? These are just a few reasons individuals, couples, and families seek therapy. We all need help sometimes. You've taken the first and most important step by searching for a therapist, which takes courage. I am passionate about the work I do to help individuals, couples, and families heal, strengthen, and grow, and I would be honored to be a part of your journey.

I work with a variety of concerns; trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, abandonment, and others. I use an integrative approach leaning heavily on attachment theory. I have also spent significant time working with children and adolescents with complex trauma and/or abandonment. I believe that people have an inherent resiliency, even if it seems lost for a time and people can often find it within themselves to heal and grow with help when needed. My time with clients is spent looking for the ways in which that healing and growth can be realized.

Compassion Focused Therapists

How does compassion-focused therapy work?

Compassion-Focused Therapy is based on the idea that humans have at least three emotion regulation systems, including one that responds to threats and another that allows us to self-soothe. Those who experienced serious childhood adversity, the theory goes, have a hyperactive threat system and an underperforming self-soothing system, leaving them vulnerable to shame and a hypercritical mindset. CFT focuses on bringing these systems back into balance, helping the client be kinder to themselves and better able to accept kindness from others.

Is compassion-focused therapy a type of CBT?

Compassion-focused therapy is closely related to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and employs many of its techniques. In addition to CBT, CFT also draws from the fields of biology, evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, developmental psychology, and Buddhism. It also has similarities to some types of trauma-focused therapies.

Is compassion-focused therapy evidence based?

Evidence suggests that CFT can be helpful in the treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, psychosis, and other mental illnesses. It has also been shown to be beneficial for individuals who may not have diagnosable psychiatric disorders but who still struggle with persistent self-criticism and feelings of shame.

What are the limitations of compassion-focused therapy?

Compassion-focused therapy is still a relatively new therapy, and research on its efficacy is still in its early stages; while some studies have found positive results, many have suffered from quality issues or small sample sizes. And while most CFT clients find it difficult to practice self-compassion at first, some—especially those who actively fear compassion or are deeply uncomfortable being cared for—may not be fully open to the tenets of CFT, potentially limiting the therapy’s long-term effectiveness.
