Imagine finally feeling like your true self, no longer overwhelmed or caught in a cycle of frustration from life's relentless challenges. Envision a space where supportive guidance gently unravels the burdens you've carried—be it relationship issues, stress, anxiety, the depths of depression, grief, or the shadows of past trauma—revealing the essence of who you are. I've been there too, caught in the same exhausting cycles that hold us back from truly living, and I understand the courage it takes to seek change. With a trauma-informed lens, I am deeply committed to guiding you through breaking free from life's overwhelming cycles.

I enjoy practicing psychotherapy that is holistic and life-transforming. As an LMFT with depth specialization, I listen to your emotional heart and soul to heal the mind. The issues that you experience as an individual, couple or in relationship with family deserve attention with that kind of dedication. Trained in integral psychology with specialization in complex addiction issues, I'm also honored to have over a decade of apprenticeship with indigenous elders. This experience allows me to carefully blend modern evidenced-based clinical modalities with ancestral healing traditions in my practice.

I have also received training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Gottman Method Couple's Therapy.
Being human isn't always easy, no matter how much we would like it to be. Sometimes we experience events and relationship challenges that shake us to the core, leave our emotions raw, and challenge everything that we think we believe about the world. One of my passions is helping individuals and couples to find coping strategies, process through the difficulties they are facing, and help them move towards healing and growth. I offer a compassionate space that honors all of the emotions and experiences my clients bring to the room, and allow them to process at their own pace, while encouraging them to face difficult things.

For couples, I use Gottman method to: disarm conflicting verbal communication; increase intimacy, respect, and affection; create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship; and develop and strengthen a sense of shared meaning and life vision.
I use an existential approach to work with anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, chronic stress and burnout, spirituality, grief and loss, and relationship challenges. My clients are typically struggling with change, relationships, making difficult choices, and finding meaning or purpose. Themes often involve freedom/constraint, responsibility, boundary, authenticity, meaning/meaninglessness, safety/risk, belonging/isolation, identity, power/powerlessness, and mortality.

I am trained in Emotion-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and the Gottman method (level 1 & 2).
Life can be wonderful, but it also is full of hardships and struggles. Keeping it all inside often leads to more suffering. One can feel caught in patterns affecting all aspects of their lives, but I know people can grow. Therefore, I provide an environment of support, respect, warmth, and empathy where you are heard and seen. My passion is assisting traumatized and distressed patients in their healing. Common trauma symptoms include anxiety; depression; obsessions; compulsions; physical and emotional distress; difficulty concentrating, sleeping, connecting with others; negative feelings and thoughts; and feeling isolated, alone.

Couples therapy is Gottman Method- and Collaborative Therapy- based.
Welcome. I approach therapy as a collaborative and respectful process to help individuals, couples, and families learn new, adaptive ways to relieve emotional distress from anxiety or depression, illness, loss, grief, and trauma, therefore, becoming much more empowered and successful in their lives. In couples therapy, partners learn to manage and repair conflict, improve sexual intimacy, recover from betrayal, and enhance trust and friendship. Family therapy creates healthy patterns, routines, and behaviors to improve and heal maladaptive family dynamics and learn respectful and loving ways to communicate more successfully.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and relational, integrating attachment theory, humanistic principles, the Gottman Method, and mindfulness-based somatic therapies such as Hakomi.
NOTE: OCTOBER 2024 - I have openings for couples and a waitlist for individuals. As we move through life, we all develop a unique collection of wounds based on our experiences on the individual, relational, systemic, cultural, and historical levels. These wounds can shake our sense of safety and fuel disconnection from ourselves, others, and the world around us. They can dampen our capacity for presence and joy, and erode our sense of meaning and hope. Even in the face of great suffering, I believe every person possesses the inner wisdom, strength, and resilience to heal, grow, and find fulfillment in their lives and relationships.

Gottman Method Therapists

How does the Gottman method work?

One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?

Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?

Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
