Hello! Thank you for viewing my profile. I believe it takes strength and courage to decide to begin therapy. I believe there comes a time in most people's lives when it can be helpful to have a non-biased, supportive person to guide them through life changes or difficulties they may be experiencing. Therapy is a collaborative relationship between the client and the therapist. In order for therapy to be successful, a person has to be ready and want to make changes. It is also essential to feel understood and accepted by your therapist. If you feel that you might benefit from a caring, experienced therapist, please call.

Therapy can be a tremendously rewarding and enlightening experience leading to lifelong change. My approach to working with clients is to tailor my interventions to meet their specific needs and to work with them in a collaborative fashion to help them access their own strengths and wisdom. My first priority is to listen,to understand your perspective and life experience. I will then work with you to help you gain insight into your current challenges. My goal is to address your problems directly, assist you in finding solutions, and get you back into your life as soon as possible.

I create a comfortable environment in my office where people feel safe to share. It is my belief that each of us is unique in our histories and in the strengths that we bring to a situation. Part of the experience of therapy is to identify the strengths and successes we have had in our lives and to discover how these things can impact the current concerns we are facing. Often through the experience of talking with a therapist people are able to figure out how to take the steps that will make their life situation and relationships work better.

I have two specialties, working with children and parents through adoption issues and working with children whose parents are experiencing separation and divorce. As a certified adoption specialist, I help adoptive parents and adopted children navigate through the developmental stages adoption brings. I also assist birth parents and adult adoptees through the complexities of search and reunion issues so they can complete their stories and find healing.

As a therapist, I know there are times when we feel lost or lack confidence to navigate through critical and life-changing circumstances. Although we often have many strengths and skills, we have difficulty accessing these during periods of family changes or crises, depression, anxiety, or prolonged grief/loss. Currently NOT accepting new clients. Life transitions, Grief and Loss, relationships and trauma have a direct impact on our quality of life. I believe that sooner or later we all experience crisis and we do not have to overcome them on our own. In my approach to therapy I will not provide you with all the answers, rather I will guide you in your own discovery of how you can become aware of what changes you need to make in your life in order to create the life you want, and overcome obstacles that are standing in your way.

Life and living only exist in the present moment. Our untrained mind often causes us suffering when it dwells on past experiences, or future fears, clouding this moment where living actually occures. Depression, anxiety, our beliefs about our selves and others, all stem from these unnecessary thoughts and their related emotions. Our mind must come to realize that it is the cause of its own unhappiness. Then whatever we experience in life is no longer overwhelming. I have an appreciation and grounding in western oriented psychodynamics enriched with an eastern psychological and Spiritual perspective. Please visit my website: kennethandert.com

I have found that no single therapy works for everyone during my 20 years of treating trauma, depression, anxiety, phobias as well as doing marital therapy. While trained in traditional therapy, I have integrated mind-body therapies where appropriate since research indicates symptoms are stored in the body as well as in the mind. EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Tappas Accupressure Technique, Advanced Integrative Therapy, Thought Field Therapy, the Emotional Freedom Technique, and Healing from the Body Level Up are a few modalities I use along with cognitive restructuring and psycho-education. I work with each client to determine goals and treatment plans.

Do you have the heart of a competitive athlete or other high achiever? Do you find yourself seeking support as you navigate a course toward excellence? I'm a licensed sports psychologist, working with diverse competitive athletes and elite performers to manage high achievement demands, daily stress, relationship struggles, life changes (such as injury recovery and career transition), and more. The work often starts with basic problem solving, but ideally it leads to an unlocking of optimal experience. Finding a licensed psychologist like myself, with training and background in sports psychology, is an important key to success.

If you are struggling with an eating disorder, I can help! I know the isolation, denial, justifications and struggles that make recovery difficult. I aim to create a space individually and with peers where you can experiment with recovery and see if it is better than your eating disorder. Eating disorders thrive in isolation, so peer support and building a recovery community is a large part of my treatment model. If you are at the place where you want to try something different, then let's work together! I use both harm-reduction and hold full recovery is possible if that is what is important to you. I regularly research treatments

Thanks for looking at my profile. I recently changed my focus to working more with adoptive parents as well as teen and adult adopted persons. As an adoptive parent myself, I have focused for the last nine years on education and training that has made me a more adoption competent therapist and parent. Parents, if your child has special needs, learning disabilities, or experience with trauma I know it can be especially hard to set aside the time to get help for yourself, but I hope you call. Teens and young adult adopted persons, I want to walk alongside you as you take on the tough task of finding identity. You deserve to be heard!

Managed Health Network (MHN) Therapists

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.
