Anxiety Therapists in Marion County, OR
Grief, anxiety, relational distress, life experiences, helping you regain a sense of personal control, and offering a safe counseling space are areas of concentration within my counseling approach.
We face many challenges along our life path; sometimes we just don't feel up to the task of managing relationships, navigating grief, staying in front of our anxiety, or knowing what to do and when. Counseling provides a variety of formats that have the potential to help us work through whatever we're facing.

I have successfully helped people reduce anxiety and depression that has only partially been helped through therapy by adding psychiatric medication that is targeted to treat worry, panic, OCD, depression and bipolar symptoms.
Accepting NEW Clients (ages 18-65) as of 10/30/24 for Medication Management (I am not taking clients for therapy). Appointments are available in 2 weeks. Complete the Patient Inquiry Form on my website. You will receive a response the same or next day. My practice is primarily composed of adults struggling with anxiety and depression. I find that people reach out to treatment when excessive worry, low motivation, and negative thinking can lead to feeling less confident in their work, behind on tasks at home, and impacting their relationships. I don't treat ADHD and I don't prescribe controlled substances, such as Xanax for anxiety.

I see individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, identity issues, relationship troubles, or trauma.
This is your place to feel seen, heard, and understood. I value giving people a safe space to share and feel seen. Sometimes we put on a mask to look positive, but underneath we're feeling overwhelmed, worn down, hurt, and discouraged. It can be an isolating experience, coupled with anxiety, sadness, and uncertainty. Although it can be intimidating to begin, therapy is a great place to let your guard down and share what's really going on inside. I'll help you find your way forward, and we'll do it together. I don't want you to go through this alone.

I work with teens and adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, OCD, motivation, and trauma.
From personal experience, I know how hard navigating the ups and downs of modern life can be. Debilitating thoughts like, “I’m not enough,” become barriers to progression. This brand of negative self-talk often leaves one feeling stuck and using whatever means necessary to alleviate the pain. I work from a philosophy that all emotions are “good” emotions. Like positive emotions, hard emotions give you insight into who you are and what's important to you. I believe the answers to creating a life worth living reside inside each one of us. My job is to help you uncover your unique ability to manage the challenges life throws your way.

You wake up not sure where to start your day with so many swirling tasks in your head. You often feel alone in your struggles and unsure of where to turn, not wanting to seem like a burden. You want to make time for yourself but it feels impossible with the never ending to do list. You feel your anxiety levels consistently rising, and are noticing shifts in your relationships as feelings bubble up inside. Sometimes it's hard to recognize this new person you’ve become.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
