I'm so glad you're here. I work with clients that are seeking support with navigating motherhood (fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood, birth/early postpartum trauma). I believe that mothers need unique support and permission to prioritize our own needs for the benefit of our families and communities at large. I am here to help dismantle the myth that motherhood equals martyrdom. This benefits no one, yet mothers are feeling stretched thinner and are more under supported than ever. If you are looking for tangible tools and support for reframing unhelpful narratives, you're in the right place!

I am an LMFT and a certified Perinatal Mental Health therapist with a special interest in supporting birthing people and partners in navigating the shift from individuals/partners to parents, infant attunement, addressing the burden of maternal mental load, equitable division of labor in relation to parenting and recognizing and managing parental burnout.
Despite what Instagram, TikTok, or an opinionated in-law may have us believe, none of us are born knowing how to parent, and many of us are actively working on changing intergenerational patterns in our own families in order to better support the growth and development of our children, in essence, reparenting ourselves. This process is a difficult one, and not meant to be done in isolation. Together we can look at how you were parented, how you want to parent, and how to bridge any gaps in between.

I love working with new mothers as they navigate identity, relationships, perinatal mood disorders, marital changes, and healing birth trauma through EMDR.
Our lives are not linear, we go through so many big transitions that we sometimes find ourselves feeling a bit adrift. I specialize in working with new mothers navigating the perinatal phase of mental health, which can often throw a curveball we weren’t expecting. There’s no such thing as too much support postpartum, and I’m happy to be part of your team. I care deeply about my clients and want you to feel seen, heard, and understood. If you have found your way to me, I am honored to support you as you navigate your way through the challenges you’re currently facing.

I specialize in perinatal mental health which means I work with individuals who are trying to conceive, pregnant, experiencing infertility, miscarriage or infant loss, and those new to parenthood. In our work we'll get honest about the highs and lows of the perinatal period. You will get to say out loud, the things so many women are thinking and feeling but so few speak of. My favorite conversations are the ones that start with, "I don't know if this makes me a bad person but..." I'm going to help you feel So Normal about the experiences you currently feel guilt, shame, and uncertainty around. And we'll find your path forward.

I'm a therapist with a real passion for working with women during difficult transitions such as going to college, experiencing heartbreak, becoming pregnant, learning how to be a parent, and separation and divorce. During these times, we discover reserves of inner strength that we never knew we had. If we can open ourselves up to new ways of interacting with painful experiences, it can unlock the door to honest and vulnerable communication and a greater capacity for love. I treat a variety of traumas including acute trauma, childhood or attachment trauma, sexual trauma, and medical trauma.

When it is a hard time to be a human, it is exponentially more difficult to be a caregiver. The good news is that you don’t have to do it alone. Reaching out for support can bring more ease and joy to your relationship with your child (or children). You might be interested in making sense of challenging or confusing behaviors; discipline & confident limit setting; understanding & responding to your child’s crying or tantrums; supporting play, independence & learning; clarifying your values & developing a caregiving approach; setting up a supportive environment; working with your own triggers, and/or carving out time for self care.

My clinical framework is rooted in attachment theory, which reiterates the delicate nature of the relationship between mother and baby. This relationship is integral to everything in our world and yet we often trivialize this relationship and assume that if there is a happy, healthy baby, then our mothers should remain perfectly aligned. The truth is, we know that the journey of motherhood is far more complex and intertwined, than how society portrays it.

Are you experiencing sadness or depression after the birth of your baby? Do you ever find yourself feeling guilty because you think you should be a better mom? Are you unable to concentrate because you are worried something bad is going to happen to your baby or you can't stop thinking about their birth? You are not alone. Feeling sad or anxious after becoming a new parent is scary. And it's hard to ask for help when family and friends keep telling you how happy you should be and that you will just know how to be a mom. You need emotional support from someone who is ready to listen with compassion and without judgement.

It's time to focus on you. When you put yourself last on the list, and stop responding to your own needs, feelings of unhappiness and disconnection often follow. You don't have to struggle with these feelings alone. When working with me, clients describe having a new therapeutic experience - one in which they see genuine and positive change manifest in themselves and their lives.

Sometimes life can feel overwhelming. An unexpected event can suddenly throw everything off balance, or many smaller stresses can build up until it seems impossible to cope with them. These places can feel especially demoralizing if they challenge your self-efficacy--your ability to cope with problems on your own. You are not alone. At times, everyone needs help navigating through life's passages. I believe we all have the capacity to find a deeper, more meaningful life. I can work with you to help you regain your footing to continue your journey stronger than you were before.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
