My masters in counseling is from Portland State University and I focused on sexuality, gender, relationship work and family systems.
Many of us have pre-verbal layers that come in as feelings of depression, restlessness and anxiety. Times of birth, death, relationship, and sexuality can usher in a greater understanding of these non-verbal aspects of ourselves. We will use a process of looking at the imagination, loose associations, and dream material to help integrate subconscious depths.

Treatment elements include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS)/parts work, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, and Positive Psychology.
Accepting new clients! I believe that everyone deserves to live a life that leaves them excited to wake up every morning to pursue their dreams. Each of us possess the capacity to change and grow to reach our goals. We can become untethered from behaviors, thoughts, emotions, and personal narratives that no longer serve us, and we can enjoy that process along the way. Simply put, I don’t believe that therapy has to be a painful thing, but something we approach in partnership with curiosity and nonjudgement.

IFS (Internal Family Systems) helps you explore the conflicting parts of yourself, those voices that may be pulling you in different directions, and brings them into harmony.
You struggle to stay present. Whether you're replaying past interactions like a broken record or fearing the catastrophic 'What if?' scenarios your mind loves to create, it feels like you're always somewhere else. Work, weed gummies, and endless doomscrolling only numb the pain, leaving the deeper feelings of guilt, disconnection, and unworthiness to fester. Maybe this is your first time considering therapy, or maybe you're coming back to do some deeper work. Either way, I’m here to guide you in exploring your patterns, your 'go-to' moves, and helping you determine whether they still serve you.

I draw on the therapeutic relationship I build with my clients and often utilize inner child work, internal family systems, and/or EMDR to aid in the process of healing.
Sex. Intimacy. Pleasure. — These topics feel intimidating and vulnerable to talk about. You’ve googled how to have better sex. You are feeling discouraged about your sex life and wondering if there's more to explore. Maybe you can’t even think about sex without feeling uncomfortable, much less talk about it. You want to feel confident in yourself, reconnect with your partner, and heal from the past. You think you are ready to open up, get curious about yourself, and tell your story. Now what? Let's see if we are a good fit!

I draw from depth psychology, myth, and dream-work, incorporating internal family systems and dialectical behavior therapy.
My work with clients is flexible and tailored to your needs. Some folks appreciate concrete coping, relaxation, non-violent communication, or parenting tools. Others seek support in finding their calling, maximizing relationships, understanding family of origin patterns and cycles, better understanding their thoughts, emotions, or choices, or uncovering and integrating central parts of the self. From simple study habits to finding your true path, I hope to find ways to connect, heal, and integrate.

Therapeutic approaches include narrative therapy, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, IFS, and family systems.
Sometimes our thoughts, our feelings, and our circumstance can be hard to put together. When we try to connect with others, or we have no one to connect with, we’re left feeling misunderstood and lost. A memory that we have a hard time letting go of, a loss of energy, seemingly with no explanation behind it. Trauma, grief, loss. These burdens can build up over time. Having a partner as we journey through and process these experiences can be invaluable in finding peace within ourselves and our story.

I practice therapy using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
I view all people within the context of their relationships, past and present. I believe that everyone is doing the best that they can with the tools they have, and that our personal attachment histories can so often make us rigid and afraid, preventing us from making the changes that would greatly benefit our own and our loved ones’ lives. Before people begin to change, I believe they need to feel emotionally safe, heard, and validated — from that place, I see clients begin to feel open to experimenting with new ways of being in relationship with themselves and with others.

I specialize in psychodynamic family systems therapy, emotionally focused therapy, and ecopsychology for addressing and understanding trauma, anxiety, and addictions.
Welcome! I am glad you are here. My name is Mariah Vlach (pronounced Vlock) and I assist individuals, couples, and families to be the catalyst for change and healing in their lives. Dysfunctional life experiences compromise the energetic system of the mind-body connection. These experiences can compartmentalize in the psyche and physical body, creating depression, shame, fear, anxiety, and suffering. Together, we will uncover your personal mythology to reveal a deeper understanding of your life experiences, the reasons behind why you feel stuck, and ignite your natural healing capacity to bring ease and reduce suffering.

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
