I work with adults and couples.
The first time I sought out a therapist I was feeling overwhelmed and confused. I was afraid to trust a stranger with my most vulnerable feelings. I found a caring, empathetic therapist who earned my trust and helped me in my struggles. As a therapist, I aim to hold a compassionate, caring space and give you safety to explore the hard things in your life, with wise guidance to find new ways to handle the stressors in your past and present. I want you to find resolution, a sense of hopefulness, improved self-confidence, and healthy, productive relationships.

Hello! We all experience difficulties in our lives no matter our age and we can become stuck. Over time, patterns of behavior can develop into relationships with anxiety, depression, feeling overwhelmed, excessive guilt, shame, and addictions that become problematic and interfere with aspirations and goals. You may have tried many ways to get unstuck including self-help, mindfulness, meditation, even therapy, but the feelings and problems persist despite your best intentions and efforts. You may be a highly sensitive person (HSP) and/or an empath. Exploring this aspect of yourself may be what you need to get unstuck.

Everyone has within them the capacity to heal. Sometimes, though, it’s helpful to have someone come alongside of you on your journey. As an infant-family early childhood mental health specialist, I work with children and families across physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental domains, employing a strong attachment-based approach while also using cognitive-behavioral, narrative, family systems, and solution-oriented frameworks. I also love to work within a Christian framework if so desired by the client and/or family.

I believe in a holistic approach that includes the mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing of a person. In providing a client centered approach, this allows the individual the safety and confidence to build a trusting and collaborative therapeutic relationship with me. I believe this helps the individual to engage freely in treatment while setting their own goals and allowing additional growth to take place.

Life can be challenging at times. We often feel overwhelmed with the many pressures and changes life may bring us. As a licensed professional counselor, my belief is that every individual/relationship brings a unique personal, relational, dynamic and cultural experience. I approach therapy with a nonjudgmental attitude. In the therapeutic relationship I hope to help persons cultivate a sense of self, build healthier habits, challenging mindsets, and defining wants and needs. I believe people have many strengths, skills, and values that foster the therapeutic process. In collaboration we can work towards your goals.

Life is hard. There is no question about that. Between family/relational stresses, work, finances, faith, hobbies and larger global worries, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, turn to substances to cope and not know how to move forward. Are you a Christian who would like your faith, prayer and Biblical principles integrated into your treatment? As a fellow Believer, I look forward to walking with you on that journey. With a background in law enforcement, firefighting and EMS, I deeply enjoy working with first responders as they battle unique obstacles with work/life balance and exposure to trauma.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
