Many times, trauma or past wounds can hold us back from moving forward or functioning in life.
One of my greatest rewards as a therapist is helping clients explore ways to make changes in their lives that will allow them to look forward to the future with hope and live fully in the present. I believe we all need someone to talk with, who will really listen and accept us as we are, without judgement. I provide clients with a warm, non-judgmental environment; a safe place to explore the issues that may be preventing them from living the life they want. I have a heart for helping others find deeper meaning and a sense of purpose.

Trauma is a highly complex and personal experience. Everyone's experience and definition of trauma is different. Among both professionals and clients, it is often incredibly misunderstood. It affects us across physical, social, emotional, and spiritual bounds. It compromises our ability to process sensory input and renders us incapable of communicating at times. Traumatic experiences can make us feel "small" and incompetent, incapable of managing basic tasks at times, or we may even develop intermittent or chronic pain.

Clients may be dealing with anxiety issues, mild to moderate levels of depression, interpersonal issues, issues related to anger, or unresolved issues with past trauma. I see people between 16-18 years old if it is their choice to seek help, and adults between 18 and 65 years of age, or older if they can pay privately. They are people who want to resolve troubling issues within themselves through increased self-understanding or between themselves and others through increased knowledge and willingness to practice new behavior.

I specialize in domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and trauma.
Abuse is something that affects a lot of people and in various different ways. It is something that can be hidden from the world and no one will know the pain the individual is going through. It is quiet and insidious, leaving lasting effects. It can creep up on you and make you feel alone in the world full of people. It can leave you feeling misunderstood, alone, and/or broken. There are ways to work through the trauma, safeguard yourself, and heal from parts of the abuse. You will rebuild yourself esteem, sense of self, and confidence in the process of healing. Everyone's journey is different.

Reaching out for help can be difficult, but healing is a process of recovering to ones’ true self. I have created an environment that is safe in order for each client to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Each session will be directed by the client with an opportunity to develop skills to work through daily trials, past trauma and any future obstacles.

I specialize in working with children and families, primarily early childhood and adolescents, experiencing anxiety, family conflict, behavioral challenges, trauma and/or difficult life transitions.
Are you struggling to connect with your child? Are you repeating "No" "Don't" and "Stop" statements all day long? Challenges with our children can often lead to feelings of shame, embarrassment and frustration; you are not alone. While I wish there was a manual for how to respond to each challenge that arises, I am realistic and transparent in recognizing there is no "one size fits all" approach to parenting. You and your child are the experts of your experiences, and I hope to utilize your strengths and work alongside you as you identify your goals and work to pursue your vision of wellness.

I have been trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), EMDR, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Animal Assisted Therapy, Play Therapy, Sandtray, and Family Therapy.
In my approach, I focus on highlighting our strengths that we can use to achieve personal and/or professional growth. This process can be achieved by intentionally developing skills to be more present in our life and a self-awareness of patterns that may be ineffective for the life we want to lead. I also recognize the strength it takes to seek change and appreciate how the process can look different for everyone.

I believe that everyone can explore past experiences that can effect relationships, and learn how to develop healthy community. Live a full productive life today, with healthy relationships, is what we all seek. I have a desire to help people overcome obstacles that get in the way of reaching goals and to move from existing to thriving, and most important, a desire to help individuals utilize their internal strengths to address and find answers to life’s difficult questions.

Yo ofrezco terapia bilingüe y podemos comunicarnos en español, inglés o ambos, según su preferencia. I have lived in the West Coast my entire life. I am a mom, a wife, and the oldest daughter of Mexican immigrants. I understand firsthand the pressures that come from living up to the expectations of fulfilling the mythical "American Dream." I firmly believe in rehabilitation; to me, this means a person is not their past actions, and every person has the capacity for positive change. Allow me to provide you with a judgment-free space to discuss specific issues, explore existential questions, and/or enhance your overall well-being.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
