Being told your voice is not valued because you’re young is the worst. Your voice matters. Often as a young adult/teen/child, we’re told, “just do it,” and “that’s just the way it is.” Or maybe you’re the parent wanting to connect with your child and asking yourself, “what happened?” I am here to support Gen Z and/or their families with each family member finding their voice, being seen for their individuality, and fostering reconnection with one another and your family’s roots/values. Every voice in the family matters and is valuable and strong and I would be honored to support your quest in nurturing this personal/family growth.

EAP invites engagement, decreases defensiveness and lowers the pressures that can make going to therapy hard for a teen, or any adult for that matter.
I love working with teens, young adults, and their families, as they work through concerns such as trauma, depression, and anxiety. I have been a mental health therapist for teens with trauma in residential care over the past few years. This has equipped me to become well versed in various and complicated diagnoses that impact entire family systems. This has also led me to use therapeutic modalities (interventions) that break down the barriers talk-therapy often has for youth, including engagement, trust, and buy-in to the therapeutic process.

Are you a parent trying hard to meet both your own and your family’s needs, or a teen struggling with body image, identity, and school? Are you balancing raising your children while also caring for aging parents? Maybe you find yourself always fighting “the system” and are exhausted from defending your own or your family’s right to exist.

If you are feeling lost, powerless, or simply overwhelmed, I want to help you carve out a safe space where you can come and reflect on what is important to you and the person you want to be. Together, we can work on the tools, mindsets, and daily acts of care for yourself that foster a stronger sense of trust in yourself and ultimately a stronger sense of resilience. I am deeply inspired by our younger generations and their commitment to equity, authenticity, and self-determination. I work with youth ages 6-24 and - I love my job! Also please note that I conduct ADHD evaluations for youth ages 6-24 if you need that support as well!

I believe trust and belonging are the basic needs of individuals. How one learns to love and be loved tells a lot about who we are as people and how our relationships develop. I provide therapy for individuals, couples, and families, thereby hoping to provide change to the system, and not just the individual.

When you are moving in the right direction, the Universe cooperates. Most of us have set set goals or developed expectations for how we want to live our lives, but sometimes we get stuck along the way. We tend to think that we can sort out these complications on our own or by talking to a close friend. Therapy is an opportunity to tell your story to a professional asking the right questions, providing unbiased perspectives, or shining light on a dark place. I encourage clients to focus on the issues keeping them from experiencing contentment and satisfaction in life.

I have a passion for giving the youth we serve a voice and hearing their struggles during this very difficult time in our history. From a very early age, I knew that I wanted to help people find joy and hope during their time on the planet. I strive to see the potential and strengths in every person I have the privilege of serving. I have found my niche serving children as young as 8, adolescents, and young adults up to age 24.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
