My ideal client in therapy is someone who is open to exploring their thoughts and emotions, even if it feels challenging. They are motivated to understand themselves better and are willing to engage in the therapeutic process and journey towards personal growth and healing. Whether they are seeking helping to manage stress, overcoming past trauma or to simply build better relationships, the ideal client is someone that has a genuine desire to improve their quality of life. Using a collaborative approach, I recognize that therapy is a partnership where we work together to set and achieve meaningful goals.

Compassion and curiosity are the starting place for our exploration. Life is inherently challenging and difficult, and we all suffer from hurts large and small, past and present. And most of us are plagued by a strong inner critic who thinks they are helping but often shames and limits us. I feel honored to work with people who are deeply examining the relationship they have to themselves and to the world. With a passion for inspiring individuals to claim their own personal excellence, my expertise is in understanding interpersonal dynamics, and successfully counseling individuals and groups into reaching their highest self.

I fully believe that clients do well if they can! This being said, sometimes life becomes too difficult to manage and maneuver on our own and we need a little support and guidance. The therapeutic process is based on a clients strength, their drive, what coping skills they have, and what they know already works for them. The therapeutic process takes time, it is hard, but given enough support and strength, the process is worth it. My focus is on helping clients, families, and couples create an environment that is positive and healthy all around.

I work with good men who have been successful in other areas, but are struggling with a relationship challenge. I believe in short term programs with a simple goal: Success ! After a career in the NFL as a linebacker, for Denver, I went back to school to finish my graduate degree at Cal State University, Long Beach. In 1985, I obtained a California Marriage and Family Therapy License and for 17 years I had an office in Los Angeles County before moving to Oregon in 2002. In Oregon, I have worked as an educator and coach in settings, ranging from large groups in the county jail to one on one private practice sessions.

I work with a combination of somatic awareness, analysis, creativity, and deep, honest conversation in my work with clients. I have been sitting with folks for over 15 years and have learned so much in that time through my work, and as the field of therapy and counseling has continued to evolve and grow. My client sessions are involved interactions, where I ask questions, give feedback, and encourage that magic combination of accountability and grace with yourself and others. We live in a larger context and system, and an understanding of that system and your place in it will also inform our work at all times.

At the core of each person, I believe there is an innate basic goodness and predilection for health. Throughout our lives, trauma, difficult experiences, life transitions, and challenges can create barriers to accessing this innate health. These experiences can leave us feeling, lost, confused, anxious, or just stuck in our own minds. Imagine walking a confusing forrest path, and wondering where to turn next. In my practice, I aim to be your guide along that path. As a counselor, I help you navigate the process of getting to know yourself more deeply and act from a place of health and authenticity.

I strongly believe that all humans can reach an optimum state of health. An essential part of achieving this often involves addressing limiting habitual patterns of behavior or belief systems as well as learning skills to optimize healthy relationships. I seek to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment in which clients can identify their own answers and achieve tangible results. This can occur both in individual sessions as well as with the collaboration of family members. My practice has lead me to work with youth, young adults, adults, and families facing some very challenging life situations and internal struggles.

I support people grappling with issues of identity, anxiety, depression, trauma and relationships. I assist you to act as an explorer of your life and the narratives you engage in, fostering self-acceptance while addressing patterns. I have a passion for supporting other people within the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond to address the unique ways that trauma and empowerment can happen as we move through the world. Radical compassion is a tenet of my practice, as many people struggle with self care, and negative thinking about themselves. My goal is to be strengths-based, thoughtful, and empowering.
