I utilize an eclectic approach with a strong reliance on acceptance-commitment therapy techniques, trauma-informed care, emotionally focused therapy techniques, and other evidence-based approaches.

Open for 1:1, couples, and group! Therapy for the apocalypse: specializing in anxieties, existential overwhelm, improving relationships and boundaries, and exploration of identities. I prioritize Queer/TGNC individuals and those impacted by systemic racism, misogyny, and socio-political issues. I work with people who consider themselves perfectionists, overthinkers, people-pleasers; loners, weirdos; people told they are "too difficult," "too sensitive," "too much;" those who want to connect with others but feel unable to due to past hurt or current negative narratives about themselves.

I enjoy working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, couples, throuples and families.
Grab a cup of coffee or tea and sit down. Your path of healing and growth is very personal. I'm here to listen. My clinical approach is warm, genuine and compassionate. Are you struggling with trauma, relationship issues, parenting, substance abuse, domestic violence, anxiety or depression? These are just some of the issues where I bring experience to the table as a therapist and certified alcohol and drug counselor.

I help people living with depression, self-identity struggles, grief, trauma and have experience working within LGBTQIA+ and ethical non-monogamous communities. The children I see have/are experiencing abuse, behavior concerns, and life stressors. My role as a therapist is to offer authentic and genuine reflections and to help strengthen your mental capacity and confidence to handle internal and external stressors. I believe we all have a story to tell, some intertwined with tragedy and challenges, and that our time together is for you to tell yours. Note: I don't work with insurance companies; only out of pocket.

I offer assessments for gender-affirming care for the trans community.
Currently operating on a waitlist, with awesome colleagues to refer to as well. My ideal client was raised with a slightly "messed up" childhood, which they laugh about but say they are "over it". But, they may be having some concerns in their current relationship dynamics. Or perhaps there's people pleasing behaviors or chronic overachievers. They may be asking themselves- why is this a pattern for me? This curiosity can lead to powerful transformations, less stress, and healthier boundaries.

I work together with my clients toward more self-compassion, awareness, and understanding. These bring about lasting positive change. I treat a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, addictions, interpersonal issues (i.e. couples counseling), psycho-spiritual/religious conflicts and abuse, sexuality, and pragmatic life-coaching, to name a few. I have extensive experience working with the LGBT community, some "out," others not; some religious, others not. I use Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (CBT) when indicated, coupled with mindfulness techniques. I also explore with my clients deeper-seated issues, including exploring our "shadows" and the roots of addiction and shame. I serve adolescents and adults.

My Practice Is Available For New Clients Immediately believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their lives. I don't believe that there is a limit to human capacity. A person's mental health and many common mental disorders are shaped by various social, economic, and physical environments operating at different stages of life. Good mental health is integral to human health and well-being. Risk factors for many common mental disorders are heavily associated with social inequalities. I don't discriminate against anyone, and I am fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).

You can never seem to get on track. You’ve tried everything you can think of, from ideas from YouTube to suggestions from other people. The message you’re getting through life is to try harder. And just trying harder never seems to work. Whether you have ADHD or some of the traits attributed to it, trying harder isn’t going to work. What the well-meaning people who try to help don’t know is that you need to try something different. Each time you lose your keys, forget to turn off the stove, or get sidetracked and lose track of time, you roll your eyes at yourself. Not again!

I am accepting new clients for July/August. I offer services for individuals, couples, and families with adult family members (no youth services provided). I love working with folks asking big questions- it may be about life, spirituality, values, etc- and getting into the gritty details of learning new skills and building sustainable habits to support our overall health. My clinical style involves partnering with clients to embark on a journey of self-exploration and self-discovery. I also tend to explore our relationships with others and society and client’s goals therein, as a part of a holistic approach to mental health.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
