Has your beloved child or teen been going through a difficult period of time? Perhaps they have begun to withdraw, worry, or struggle with something internally. It is very difficult to watch our loved ones experience these heavy feelings. Thankfully, your outstanding parent-intuition has led you to search for help.

I have worked with adolescents and young adults for over 15 years in a variety of capacities and specialize in adolescent development and treatment and the challenges that arise in the transitional years of young adulthood.
With recent changes in our world and communities, adolescents and young adults are bombarded with stress and insecurity leading to mental health challenges. Anxiety, depression, and loneliness can lead to increased isolation, conflicts in parent/child relationships, suicidal thoughts and feelings of hopelessness. They may need a life line, a map to find their way.

Janeen is well versed in providing support to youth and adolescents who are system involved (Ex: DHS, Juvenile Justice), youth and adolescent sex trafficking survivors, gang impacted youth, and BIPOC trauma healing. Janeen is a veteran of the United States Navy. When spending time outside of her work responsibilities she loves basking in nature. She loves hunting, camping, hiking, and anything else that requires going outside to play. When Janeen is not outside enjoying nature, she can appreciate curling up to a good book and painting. Fun fact: she played college rugby

We can work together in a non-judgmental, compassionate environment, to navigate transitions such as divorce, raising children, teen anxiety, empty nesting, retirement, and loss.
Life is hard, but there are strategies and tools you can learn to help you overcome challenges and move towards happiness. The way to start creating a joyful life begins by understanding what the problem is and what actions you can take to create change. I love helping individuals, couples, and families learn to recognize unhealthy patterns, remove stumbling blocks and start creating a meaningful and fulfilling life.

Deciding to go to therapy is a brave and vulnerable decision. My goal is to provide a safe collaborative space to provide you with support. I believe that our need to belong and have healthy relationships is fundamental to the human experience. Oftentimes we do not feel seen or valued for who we are or what we have gone through. My goal is to guide people to explore their authentic selves. Through a safe and transparent therapeutic relationship, we can unpack personal experiences and understand how they shape the present.

I work with teens, individuals and relationships on a range of presenting concerns.
When there is a feeling of disconnect between yourself and the world or with those in your life, it can be lonely and confusing. We alI feel stuck in our life at times around repeating old patterns, managing painful emotions or having critical thoughts of self and others. Maybe you are experiencing depression, life transitions or anxious thoughts. I aim to help clients explore what is causing them distress and identify new ways to overcome those obstacles. If you find yourself engaging in similar patterns and struggling to find effective ways to cope with anxiety or daily stressors, therapy may be a courageous first step to relief.

Hello! I am so glad you stopped by. I believe that we all long to be seen, heard, and known. I believe every human shares the core desires to be known and to belong. I also believe that there are painful experiences in life that can distort our view of ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. I sit with each client as the individual that they are and counsel through a process of exploring how our past is interfering with our present and hope to help you find hope and healing as you grow into the healthiest version of yourself.

I work with clients across the lifespan and provide parent consultations when working with children/ adolescents. I provide support for anxiety, behavioral challenges, depression, family conflict, grief and loss, life transitions, peer relationships, school issues, and trauma. I believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for any work we will do together. When you feel safe within the therapeutic relationship, that is when real healing or progress can occur. I work with individuals and family systems from a relational-cultural perspective and with a trauma-informed lens.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
