Anxiety, stress, anger, substance abuse, trauma... Each one or all of them can turn your life inside-out. But you can feel better and acquire the skills to communicate and control your own life. You can learn how to make friends with yourself and in so doing experience less blame, misunderstanding, and self-criticism. My work is focused on helping you do that. If you are dealing with: PTSD; Anger and Frustration; Depression/Anxiety; or Substance Abuse I would be happy to talk with you.

I am accepting new clients. Often we seek counseling when we’re not feeling like ourselves. Many people can struggle with the gap between logical knowing, “I know I’m a good person” and emotional experience, “But I don’t feel like I am”. A primary focus of my approach is to close that gap and integrate outdated beliefs and patterns that no longer serve you. I work well with folks who have a foundational understanding of therapy or who have gotten stuck in the talk therapy circuit. I practice Internal Family Systems (IFS), AKA “Parts work”. This process creates more self-leadership, more self-compassion, and deepens clarity.

I specialize in treating underlying emotional concerns as they related to substance use, often referred to as co-occurring disorders. Therapy should be a process where you feel safe exploring past experiences, and able to express all parts of yourself free from judgement. This often involves telling difficult stories, and exploring feelings like anger, resentment, loneliness, fear, or inadequacy. The therapist's role is to help you observe yourself in a compassionate and truthful way. My style is humorous, direct, and personable. I embrace authenticity, collaboration, and honest open communication.

By addressing troubling thoughts and feelings, self-sabotaging behaviors, and traumas, life can be made more manageable, productive, and fulfilling. Feelings such as grief, shame, anxiety, sadness, and anger often signal that something needs to change. Listening to and working with these feelings—some that consume us and others that gently nudge us—can move us forward. Through this, we sometimes discover that our everyday dilemmas are part of larger patterns waiting to be resolved as a whole.

Are you feeling discouraged? Are you at a point which you feel your hope may be GONE! For example, are you a young adult who has lost hope in finding a soulmate? Are you a couple who is on the edge of getting a divorce? Are you a parent who can’t see hope in your child with health issues? There are many different circumstances that cause us to feel hopeless. Unfortunately, depression, anxiety and even anger often come alongside with a sense of hopelessness. My passion is to help you find hope through compassionate counseling.

Through collaboration and compassion, I support clients who are often stuck inside their own heads. I practice through a trauma-informed intersectional lens, because I understand the pressures of systems, culture, and daily interactions. Through understanding your story we work together to get of our heads, and express the grief, imposter syndrome, anger, or other thoughts that are taking up so much time and energy from you.

As a Registered Play Therapist, I can help your child learn how to get along with others, control their anger, and think things through before reacting.
Are you tired of those frustrating phone calls from the school saying that your child got into another fight? Or has been suspended again? Are you tired of looking at your child's behavior sheet and seeing multiple numbers circled? If you are tired of your child's color being changed to red or number being change, I understand your frustration. Having 20 years of experience working in the public schools as a Certified School Counselor, Registered Play Therapist, and Special Ed Teacher, I can help.

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
