Are you someone whose gender, sexuality, or relationship structure falls outside of the mainstream? Have you experienced trauma? (and yes, discrimination and oppression are traumatizing!) Perhaps you're struggling with anxiety, depression, dissociation, low-self worth, motivation issues, or relationship challenges. Maybe you seek a supportive, non-judgmental space to explore your identity. Perhaps you're striving to understand your desires and establish boundaries. Let's talk!

I am acutely aware of how many people are suffering deeply now – people who are strong, intelligent, and creative, and yet find themselves struggling within their lives and disbelieving in themselves. Many of our psychological and emotional problems have been worsened over time by systemic and political practices, policies and institutions which also affect us spiritually. Because these systems aren’t self-aware, they don’t change quickly, and since they are part of the cause of our problems, they can’t help us heal. I listen to understand how to heal.

Mental and behavioral health are as important as physical health, especially for children and teens. More than ever our children need resiliency and good, adaptive coping strategies as well as access to prompt, high-quality treatment for common conditions like anxiety, depression, or ADHD. To increase access to services, I will now offer cognitive-behavioral therapy groups for children with depression and anxiety and parent groups for families impacted by ADHD. Groups size will be kept small. The CBT treatment will follow an established approach for 10 weeks (in person).

Hi there! I am Sunny Mae, and I am an EMDR certified therapist. I am currently accepting new clients via Telehealth (phone or video). Questions about services sent via email are answered more quickly, but phone calls are welcome too! I know that anxiousness can be a part of starting therapy, and reaching out for support can be the greatest hurdle to getting connected. I offer a space that is welcoming, inclusive, affirming, and dedicated to seeing you as human, not as flawed. My wheelhouse incorporates neurodivergence, trauma, depression, and anxiety. I value all walks of life, and I look forward to assisting in your journey!

I believe that a trusting relationship with you is of the utmost importance. During our time together I will work to create an atmosphere of warmth and acceptance so you feel free sharing and exploring whatever is troubling you. My approach is a trauma-informed, culturally-sensitive, and evidence-based integration of attachment theory, psychodynamic therapy, and cognitive therapy which emphasizes (1) trusting the client as an expert of their own reality, (2) exploring the patterns through which we come to understand ourselves, others, and the world, and (3) seeking meaningful emotional experiences in a safe therapeutic relationship.

I am a passionate and authentic practitioner with a diverse background of experience. Having experienced both sides of the proverbial couch, I understand the challenges of self-care amidst the demands of life. My goal is to deeply understand how you derive meaning from your beliefs and experiences, and how these beliefs shape your world. I meet you where you are, acknowledging your unique journey. As an eclectic clinician, I recognize that one size does not fit all, so I tailor our time together to best support your needs.

People often begin counseling when it's too hard to stay the same. Even though seeking help can seem like a sign of weakness, it’s not an indicator of failure. Whatever the reason you’re searching for a therapist today, it takes courage to notice that reason within yourself and reach out for support. Maybe you’re ready to shift patterns in close relationships, or you’re ready to build a better relationship with yourself. Acknowledging distress is a chance to create meaningful change in your life.

Finding grace and serenity and balance in life is no easy task - even with the foundation of a supportive, liberating childhood; miraculously healthy personal boundaries; and true friends, colleagues, mentors, and lovers. Self-sabotage, self-doubt, seemingly mistaken paths: we're all vulnerable. We find ourselves yearning for an elusive guidebook - to rewrite our lifestory or escape from sometimes paralyzing anguish. All the more so if an overlay of fresh or longstanding trauma (heartbreak, grief, abuse, crises of health, home, or employment) overwhelms and destabilizes us or undermines our ability to trust, to forgive our missteps, even to breathe deep.

Currently Accepting New Clients! I believe that every human is unique and that therapy should be an empowering collaborative process. I am passionate about supporting other to create lives they want while honoring the strengths they already have. Identifying and building upon these strengths allows positive change to unfold. I have found that having a stable, trusted guide there to assist and support the growth process is crucial, and I bring this attitude to my practice. I greet each client where they are at with non-judgmental curiosity and gentle encouragement.

All my life I have been a helper, even before I knew what the term meant. I have worked as a therapist for all ages for the past seven years and during that time my passion for helping others has continued to grow. I understand that as humans we do not live in a vacuum and that our families, friends, and all who surround us create a system of which we are all a part and that system has an impact on the individual. Through my work I have developed the following approach to working with clients: I believe each person is on their own personal journey of healing and has the ability to change and work through their challenges

My work is to walk with people in liberatory practices that allow us to return home to ourselves, our communities, and our place in this world. I aim to embody an orientation toward collective liberation. The mental health industry is deeply influenced by white supremacy, capitalism, and colonialism. As a white, queer, gender-resistant, liberation-oriented therapist, I aim to disrupt and dismantle those oppressive systems as they exist within me and in the larger society. I incorporate decolonial, abolitionist, and transformative justice frameworks into our work as we meet one-on-one or in many relational configurations.
