I believe we strive to do our best based on our life experiences, personal beliefs and values, resources we possess, and positive relationships we foster. Sometimes we don’t meet our own or others’ expectations, thus leading to struggles and challenges with mental wellness. We can end up stuck. Creating and maintaining positive connections with others, acknowledging and working through past issues and traumas, and learning new skills, perspectives, and narratives can lead us to personal acceptance and wellness.

I view addictions in a broader sense to include self defeating thought patterns, love/relationship addiction, hoarding, internet use, procrastination. Relationships are beautiful and they are also incredibly challenging. Sometimes our deepest connections and relationships can experience unintentional wounding. This can be as a result of a variety of things inherently coming up for us that we may not yet realize or understand. As a PACT trained couple's therapist I provide a deep level of attunement to couples in session to locate tender spots and any underlying issues. I provide a space where couples can connect and be seen and heard by one another and ultimately move towards functioning securely together. Let's get you unstuck, out of old patterns and onto the same team, again.

Every person faces challenging circumstances throughout life, but no one has to endure the pain of difficult experiences alone. We know from experience that therapy can be transformative and offers the potential for enormous growth and positive change. The therapeutic relationship is central to the change process and as part of this, I strive to foster a collaborative approach with my clients by creating a safe, accepting environment. I approach counseling in a strengths-based framework and recognize that we all have skills and abilities that have developed to cope and carry us through our toughest times.

Finding someone to speak with and asking for help is a courageous step. I understand how it can be to share personal information with someone you have just met and I will hold this position with respect. Many people come to therapy for support with anxiety, depression, stress, loss and relationship issues. For some, therapy is more about understanding themselves, changing patterns of behavior that are outdated and they are making efforts to move forward. Therapy is not about advice giving, although many times, problem solving is part of the process. Change seems more likely when there is someone listening to us and we feel encouraged. It's also useful to speak with someone who has knowledge of the most effective strategies for change. It is my hope that whatever your reason for seeking therapy, together we can create a useful experience for you.

Accepting New BCBS, Aetna, Providence, and PacificSource Commercial (not through OHP) in OREGON. Finding a therapist can be a hassle. Keep going. Reach out via email and we can do a consult to see if it is a good fit. I help people identify their values and the aspects of life worth suffering for. When we can accept and allow discomfort, we can live a meaningful life now, as opposed to waiting until we feel "better." I like this quote as a reminder - The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.

Often we find ourselves carrying out the same unhealthy patterns in the present that were developed in earlier stages of life that allowed us to adapt and survive at that time. We carry old beliefs and views stemming from past trauma or from others' opinions and mistake the inner critic voice for our own. Many of my clients find themselves in the midst of transition in which these old patterns, beliefs and inner critic voice no longer serve them.

Belonging Is Our Essence......and yet many of us experience situations where we didn't feel valued, heard or seen for who we really are. Whether the message came from our family of origin, our intimate relationships or from cultural oppression, somewhere we got the message that being our authentic self wasn't okay, and sometimes not even safe. I focus on creating a healing space where you won't be judged or harmed as we collaborate to help you learn to be present and be your authentic self, and to shed the layers that no longer serve you.

Deep inside each of us is a reservoir of wisdom, of knowing what is true for us. Granted, that inner wisdom maybe be layered over with negative messages, unexamined beliefs acquired years ago, noise from the busy-ness of our lives and the chaos of the world, or personal doubt, lack of confidence, confusion. Being present in the body so that we can access that inner wisdom is a crucial aspect of counseling and doing so can help us find the way forward in life. Learning to be fully present in the moment is a gift we can give ourselves as we live our lives and move toward healing and well-being.

Making the choice to seek help is incredibly brave, and finding a counselor can be overwhelming. I aim to make the process as safe and effortless as possible, providing individual, family, and couples counseling. We all have a right to belong, be respected, and feel heard and understood. If you experience anxiety, depression, shame, grief and loss, have had traumatic experiences, or relationship difficulties, counseling may help. Together we can find healing, promote connection with others, reduce distress, implement healthy boundaries, and process our hurt to create a better relationship with ourselves, our stories, and our world.

I am a retired high tech executive who has embarked on a career as a life coach specializing in addiction counseling. As a State-certified counselor, I’ve helped men from 20 to 60 years of age and from many backgrounds. However, having worked in the corporate world, I’m uniquely qualified to help people struggling with substance abuse in high pressure environments. Addiction is a secondary issue in my view. The problem is most people approach life in a reactive, rather than proactive mode. This usually results in sub-optimal outcomes. I will help you with personal and professional life planning to get your life on track.

Hello! My name is Amanda. My work is grounded in acceptance, authenticity, compassion, creativity, trust, humor and safety. Transformation can be messy, intimidating, confusing and even scary. It can also be exciting and beautiful. I will support you through this journey to find healing and access to the kind of life you want to live. I see my role to be a facilitator, guide and collaborator with you on your path to inner wisdom and self-discovery. I value building a strong therapeutic relationship from which we can explore narratives, patterns and behaviors that no longer serve your well being.

My clients meet with me from the comfort of their own home or wherever they may be. I work through video and phone calls only and do not have an office. I bill in 15 minute increments to allow flexibility for my client's needs. I do not require an appointment and will take calls if I'm available with no appointment to allow for short talks as needed, or call you back as soon as I am available. My goal is to make something that may be uncomfortable and inconvenient for some people as comfortable and convenient as possible. There is no waiting 2-3 weeks for an appointment and or wasting time in the first session filling out paperwork.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
