I believe that therapy begins with hope. This means that change is possible and you are not stuck. I desire to both help you maintain hope and support the change process. I believe that you are capable, resilient, and worthy. This means that I operate from a strengths-based and solution-focused perspective. While it is helpful to determine the true challenge, we often tend to fixate on problems that we lose sight of the strengths and possible solutions that can help us navigate trials life brings. This also means that I desire to understand and connect with you in a way that helps you see yourself as capable and worthy.

I work with adults and adolescents over 15 years old. The foundation of my practice is rooted in a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive and liberation frame work. While I work with clients from all walks of life, I have a focus on serving the BIPOC, Latinx and Hispanic communities. I specialize working with people who have experienced trauma and live with anxiety. I provide therapy in English, Spanish (or Spanglish!) and my priority is for clients to feel like they can be their most authentic selves. Further, I foster an environment that is culturally responsive, non-jugmental, and sometimes sprinkled with a little humor.

Are you tired of struggling to thrive in relationships with friends, family, and lovers? Are your emotions running your life? Interacting with others can be overwhelming when you have experienced trauma, grief, depression or anxiety. This can lead to coping through addictions or harmful behaviors. I collaborate with clients to build positive experiences in a caring therapeutic relationship through talking, playing (children), and art.

Using their personal interests, art, games, and play, I quickly develop a working relationship.
As a therapist, I know there are times when we feel lost or lack confidence to navigate through critical and life-changing circumstances. Although we often have many strengths and skills, we have difficulty accessing these during periods of family changes or crises, depression, anxiety, or prolonged grief/loss. In therapy, I will facilitate the process of helping you reconnect with your strengths and discover new skills, strategies, and resources toward a more healthier approach to life challenges.

We can also bring out our craft stashes together and do an art therapy project.
Therapy is fun. Therapy is creative. Therapy is a two-person job. Therapy is human connection. Therapy is uncomfortable. Therapy is finding your authenticity. Hi! I'm Josie and before I am a therapist, I am human, just like you. When I am not doing therapist things you will catch me being human with my pet pig and cats, or thrifting for goodies. I enjoy the little glimmers in life and hope to inspire you to do the same. It is my goal to work closely with you to structure therapy to be what you need. It is so important to connect with your therapist to build a trusting relationship. This will be our first step together.

Art offers a voice to the complexity of our emotional experiences, extending beyond what talk-therapy alone can capture.

You are likely coming to therapy to address your worries/fears, perfectionism/need for control, depression, disordered eating/exercise patterns, low self-esteem/self-image concerns, and/or complex trauma/attachment wounds. You are hoping to find a therapist who is a knowledgable guide in helping you express yourself in new ways.

I use art, pop-culture, gaming, and mindfulness to help you create understanding and growth.
Do you often feel overwhelmed, confused, or frustrated with your life? Do you feel you have little support? Perhaps you feel on edge and don’t know how to relax? Do you feel there isn’t enough time in the day? Or your world runs on chronic stress? Maybe you’ve noticed these feelings and have even tried ways to challenge them. Jumped into yoga, didn’t work. Read a self-help book, didn’t work. Sought advice from friends. They didn’t understand. Googled your symptoms. Yeah, that was a bad idea. If you find yourself saying yes, then you're looking at the right profile. Let me be your guide to balance and mental wellness.

Art Therapy
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
