Among the approaches I use are Internal Family Systems, Coherence Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy.
I believe every client can reach an ideal state of mental health. Clients can expect to experience mental, emotional, and spiritual health in a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space. In addition, clients can expect to find compassion, comfort, and forgiveness for personal and relational pain. A client who struggles with fears, anxiety, loneliness, depression, or other mental, emotional, and spiritual struggles can expect support, help, and resolutions. Through a collaborative and therapeutic relationship, clients will discover for themselves the power, freedom, and beauty of their true-selves. There is always hope.

I draw from a broad array of counseling and systems approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (a form of CBT), Internal Family Systems, Person-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Structural Family Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Expressive Therapy and mindfulness.
I earned my Master's degree from a holistically oriented clinical mental health counseling program at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts - one of the most comprehensive programs of its kind. Since earning my degree I have provided counseling across a variety of settings including non-profit and for-profit organizations, government agencies, hospitals, employee assistance and now in private practice. Locally here in the Rogue Valley I have worked for both Asante and Jackson County Mental Health. At the latter location I trained the RN staff in counseling skills and fellow counselors in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

My approach is most influenced by Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I help motivated adults learn and grow through times of transition. My clients value personal growth and see it as connected to the greater good. Folx who most benefit from my approach are committed to cultivating more balance, joy, and fulfillment in their lives. They want to discover what is holding them back internally. They are ready to experience compassionate, insight-oriented practices that support positive transformation. They are eager to leave each session with new insight and homework that aligns with their values and goals.

It is my privilege to partner with you to help you reach your goals by using approaches tailored for your individual needs in an environment of safety, respect, and acceptance.
I entered the counseling field because I believe that everyone has the capacity to grow, heal, and live healthy, meaningful lives. I utilize a person-centered, strengths-based, and integrative style of therapy, drawing heavily from cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and trauma-informed practices. I also welcome faith as a key element of the therapy process and I draw on principles of Christianity, whenever appropriate.

Sometimes stress gets stored in the body and no matter how much we try to talk ourselves out of it, we still feel stuck. This kind of stress (often tied up with anxiety) benefits from a biological approach, along with traditional talk therapy. I use EMDR and other non-invasive somatic/biological methods in conjunction with talk therapy (i.e. CBT, ACT) to help people build resilience and feel better. I believe that with some tailoring and practice, everyone can learn to rewire their brains and make great strides in creating healthier, happier lives.

Life can feel overwhelming when we are experiencing depression, anxiety, or a trauma that has impacted every part of us. It can feel like it's hard to get out of bed, it's impacting your relationships, or gets in the way of doing the things that make you happy. Are you wanting to experience a sense of peace and understanding about your experience and how it may impact how you are showing up in the world? We can find a new sense of being in the world as we explore the inner workings and external impact of these experiences to transform it into something new.

As human beings we developed in stages. In a perfect world all of us would be able to develop into having autonomy, initiative, industry, intimacy, generativity and integrity. Although, not all people have the opportunity to develop those important traits and may feel stuck in feeling shame, guilt, inferiority, isolation, stagnation and despair. Those feelings may come as symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Your body, like the caterpillar’s, instinctively knows when it is time to transform. Unlike the caterpillar, we have been conditioned and programmed since birth to adopt self-limiting beliefs that can stunt, or sabotage, our natural evolution in this life. Although we cannot ultimately avoid uncomfortable emotions, pain and loss, we can decrease our suffering and move through these experiences with more love than we ever thought possible.

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
