You want to reach your potential, feel good about yourself, and live your best life. Sometimes you feel insignificant or isolated. You’ve lost your sense of purpose, feel dissatisfied or unfulfilled. The future is scary, the past is shameful. It’s hard to let go of anger, you have a short fuse. Your relationships are lacking or need healing. You’re being weighed down by shame, held back by procrastination, or numbed by grief. It's hard to meet people, dating is harder. You're just miserable and don't know why. Life is hard, but you only get one: you deserve to live it as your whole, authentic self.

I am accepting new clients as of 6/23/2024. Inevitably, at some point in our lives we feel overwhelmed and exhausted as we try to keep it together in this incessantly pressurized world. If you're feeling swallowed up by depression, anxiety, stress, anger, or just emptiness, it’s important to remember that the way you feel right now isn’t how you have to feel tomorrow. The truth is that this negative emotion is indicating that certain aspects of your life are demanding to be addressed, as they would if you sprained your ankle. It is a signal that you are ready to find comfort and relief, ready for growth and change.

Anxiety, stress, anger, substance abuse, trauma... Each one or all of them can turn your life inside-out. But you can feel better and acquire the skills to communicate and control your own life. You can learn how to make friends with yourself and in so doing experience less blame, misunderstanding, and self-criticism. My work is focused on helping you do that. If you are dealing with: PTSD; Anger and Frustration; Depression/Anxiety; or Substance Abuse I would be happy to talk with you.

By addressing troubling thoughts and feelings, self-sabotaging behaviors, and traumas, life can be made more manageable, productive, and fulfilling. Feelings such as grief, shame, anxiety, sadness, and anger often signal that something needs to change. Listening to and working with these feelings—some that consume us and others that gently nudge us—can move us forward. Through this, we sometimes discover that our everyday dilemmas are part of larger patterns waiting to be resolved as a whole.

Are you grappling with significant life changes like loss, relationship challenges, or personal identity shifts that have triggered overwhelming emotions such as anxiety, fear, guilt, or anger? Despite trying various approaches like confiding in friends, staying active, or turning to unhealthy habits, you may still feel adrift, seeking a clear path forward. The idea of therapy may evoke vulnerability, especially if past experiences have left you disheartened. Embarking on therapy can be daunting, yet pivotal. My person-centered approach aims to help you not only accept yourself but also transform how you navigate stressors.

I enjoy helping people who struggle with developmental trauma (CPTSD), perfectionism, anger, substance (mis)use or addictive behaviors, depression, shame, OCD, and anxiety struggles including agoraphobia/panic/generalized anxiety.
Are you looking for support? Welcome! I would love to hear from you. I can work with you to help improve your relationship with yourself (and those around you) by truly getting to know all of you - yes, even the parts of you that scare or embarrass you. Together we can work toward a more integrated whole, where you can exist with yourself in more harmony. The results are less shame and self-criticism, more self-compassion, more manageable moods and behaviors, and less reliance on patterns that aren't working for you any longer. I also work with adult sibling pairs who are struggling with their connection and/or conflict.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
