On this journey we call life we are all seeking connection and clarity amid chaos. We all want to be seen, heard, and validated. At times it is difficult to communicate the messages we desire to send in a manner our loved ones can accept. While attempting to communicate these messages conflict may arise. This can be frustrating resulting in hopelessness, confusion, and anxiety.

My work has strongly focused on at-risk children, adolescents, and families and the use of tested and effective treatments. I have had many years of experience with children and youth at risk due to problem behaviors and ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, delinquency, and other risks out of children's control, such as poverty, parental corrections involvement, and foster care. I most typically work directly with parents (and other adults) who are experiencing difficulties with parenting strategies, stress and anxiety, depression, and/or alcohol and substance use.

My work is heavily influenced by the following theoretical approaches: Internal Family Systems, Attachment Theory, Cognitive-Behavioral Theory, Mindfulness, and Existential Theory.
I believe that all people are wired for connection. We want to be at peace with ourselves, and we want to feel secure in our relationships. However, life experiences, and how we make sense of them, often get in our way. My work as a counselor is to help clients of all ages see themselves and their world more clearly, by cutting through the negative messaging and reconnecting with their wise self. This is done with an attitude of compassionate, even playful, curiosity, recognizing we are all figuring it out as we go.

Hi! I am a psychologist who recently moved to Bend from Portland. I have been in practice for 15 years and really enjoy working with both individuals and couples who want something more from life. I am a transformational healer who believes in the power each of us holds to shape our own futures. Accepting new clients! Life’s challenges and stressors can deeply impact our adult lives, leaving us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and alone. Meanwhile, children may respond with big emotions and behaviors. Whether you or your child is facing difficulties, I am here to offer support to you and your family. I work with children (ages 4-12) and adults, using an approach that draws on elements from Relational Cultural Theory and Attachment Theory. I believe that relationships and social and cultural contexts greatly contribute to shaping how we show up in the world, so exploring these relational dynamics will be a part of our work.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
