I have also worked for many years with older clients, and often work with older individuals and couples to assist them with family challenges and couples issues.
My work has strongly focused on at-risk children, adolescents, and families and the use of tested and effective treatments. I have had many years of experience with children and youth at risk due to problem behaviors and ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, delinquency, and other risks out of children's control, such as poverty, parental corrections involvement, and foster care. I most typically work directly with parents (and other adults) who are experiencing difficulties with parenting strategies, stress and anxiety, depression, and/or alcohol and substance use.

I believe that the foundation upon which an individual's emotional, psychological, and physical health may thrive is determined by the strength of that individual's relationship with "self". My treatment style is holistic and integrated, its core components being that of empathy, authenticity, and collaboration. My areas of practice include relational issues experienced throughout the lifespan, trauma, moral injury, sexual/gender issues, and issues pertaining to chronic illness and addiction. I provide services for those within the military culture, LGBTQI community, and for caretakers experiencing compassion fatigue.

I walk alongside clients as they navigate the more challenging and rewarding moments in their closest relationships. Using an attachment framework, I partner with clients to cultivate secure relating in their relationships. This may include untangling destructive conflict patterns, navigating challenging conversations, or unlearning unproductive attachment behaviors. I see my role as facilitating growth and offering a secure base, empowering clients to take ownership of their own relational journeys.

I have advanced training in the treatment of substance abuse disorders, relationship therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and mindful self-compassion.
I work with a variety of adult clients. Most people who consult me are confronting anxiety, depression, substance abuse, stress related disorders, and marital problems. In assessing the type of problems, people present, I look at lifestyle, current coping mechanisms, how we think and perceive our problem, our personal histories and what strategies specifically people have used to address their concerns. The use of mindfulness, learning to be more present in the moment allows for reduced reactivity, new ways of coping, problem solving, and relating to others in ones environment. It can lead to healing and transformation.

I utilize a variety of modalities that include interpersonal therapy, motivational interviewing, CBT, family systems, attachment theories, trauma-informed care and EFT for couples.
Brene Brown says, "Daring greatly means the courage to be vulnerable. It means to show up and be seen. To ask for what you need. To talk about how you’re feeling. To have the hard conversations." Counseling can feel vulnerable, challenging and anxiety provoking; I get it. It takes a lot of courage and strength to reach out for support. My role as a therapist is to provide you a safe space to be vulnerable, courageous, real and imperfect; for you to come as you are and to just be.

I work with families, couples or individuals irrespective of diagnosis or the presenting problem. I'm interested in the person, not the label.
From my perspective, psychotherapy is a collaboration. It has been referred to as the "talking cure" because it heals through conversation. Putting troubling thoughts, emotions, and memories into words enables them to be felt and understood more deeply, to be borne with greater resilience, and to facilitate wiser choices. And, the privacy, boundaries, empathy, and safety of the therapeutic relationship can enable even the most shameful and frightening feelings to be faced and worked through.

I help stabilize clients utilizing CBT (ACT) when necessary, but prefer to use EMDR and Internal Family Systems therapy for trauma-focused treatments and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples.
Kaiser in-network provider. I receive a lot of feedback from clients who report feeling safe & open in sharing their difficulties with me, while still being challenged to consider new perspectives and grow. It's vital to feel free from judgement/embarrassment in order to overcome barriers that keep us feeling stuck. I connect well with individuals who have typically had trouble sharing with or trusting others due to facing numerous challenges & traumas throughout life. I focus first on understanding you and your needs/goals/life. I also love doing couples therapy, improving the sense of safety, trust and connection in one-another.

You will find relief from shame and self-doubt, trauma, anxiety, depression, overwhelming anger, addictions, dissociation, relationship, spiritual, and identity challenges.
I am HOSTING a Small Therapy GROUP - "Coming HOME to the BODY After TRAUMA" - in SUMMER/FALL. Reach out with interest or questions! Welcome. I believe we are innately healing beings and internally have what we need to heal. Within each of us is a deep knowing of who we truly are, what really matters to us, and our life’s purpose. Yet, in this human life, we inevitably encounter traumas, and it's easy to lose our connection to the inner knowing of our hearts. We may feel lost, disconnected, unlovable, or angry. As a therapist, my intention is to join alongside you on your healing journey and help you reconnect to you.

My goal as a therapist is to assist you on your journey of self-awareness and personal discovery. I help couples and individuals gain the skills to effectively communicate their needs, to feel more emotionally connected to others, and to be less reactive.
My goal is to see to it that by the end of therapy you leave with a whole range of new insights, skills, and confidence leading you to a more fulfilled and comfortable life. Therapy is an investment in the quality of your life. I believe it should result in valuable new ways to be with yourself and others. I help people who feel stuck, lost, and overwhelmed, or are having difficulties with relationships or harmful patterns of behavior. I'm predominantly existential, relational, and humanistic and teach a mindfulness-like process. My clients feel supported and heard, but also learn effective tools toward building the life they want.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
