I specialize in working with trauma, childhood issues, & relationship difficulties.
I believe that throughout our lives we are seeking to deepen our self-awareness, learn & grow from our experiences, & aim to break patterns of behavior that are no longer benefiting us. While we’re doing the best we can with the knowledge we have, there may be times we need additional support. I understand the complexities that come with exploring our inner world & believe it takes a lot of bravery, strength & vulnerability to peel back the curtain & take a look inside; especially when the idea of doing so feels scary, confusing, or impossible. I aim to provide services that are tailored to fit your unique needs & goals for therapy.

Informed by my work as a professor, I have extensive experience with anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, grief and loss, self-esteem, and gender identity and sexuality issues, including clients who identify as LGBT.
Finding the right match in a counselor is a daunting challenge. It can be stressful to find a competent and caring professional who can listen to your concerns and help you find a way forward. In my experience, people have unique needs, backgrounds, and challenges. Even common mental health challenges like anxiety and depression look different for each person. I therefore collaborate with clients to find an individualized counseling approach that works best for each person. I draw from a variety of counseling theories, including person-centered therapy, psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and existential therapy.

I am passionate about empowering clients to gain self confidence, a stronger sense of identity and the ability to build healthy relationships. I believe how we move through the world is directly connected to our most basic understanding of our selves, and the relationships and role models we have grown up with. I also believe our culture plays a significant role shaping our identity and the relationship with the context we live in. Beginning with this understanding, I utilize aspects of different therapeutic approaches to help clients create meaningful and positive changes to live a fuller life.

My clients enter into a therapeutic relationship with me often because they never learned how to listen to or love themselves. Many of my clients live with a harsh/distracting internal critic that pulls them out of the present moment and into chronic experiences of suffering. They might even live with or love others who echo or add new fodder to this already cruel inner-voice. My clients begin therapy because they want more out of relationships - with themselves, with others and with the world.

areas of interest include but are not limited to relationship issues, grief, trauma, life transitions, vocational stress, and emotional dysregulation.
I strongly value the unique intersectionality of each individual and/or collective identities and narratives. I am interested in focusing on and using the therapeutic relationship to explore, process, and re-build psychological patterns of self-worth and interpersonal dynamics that are underlying symptoms. I welcome collaboration in cultivating a curious and open space to empower growth in self-agency as well as growth in the capacity to reflect on the self, other, unconscious mind, and emotional experience. I believe this is vital for deepening self-compassion and integration of one’s various parts of self and history.

This approach focuses attention on the here-and-now relationship of therapist and client with intentional timing in order to challenge defensiveness and/or heighten awareness of patterns of relating to others.
Do you find yourself caught in a cycle of self-doubt and negative self-talk? Do you feel disconnected from yourself or others? Are you seeking a safe space to process past traumas and heal emotional wounds? Not even sure where to start? I would be glad to meet with you and understand more about what you are seeking and needing in therapy. I support clients existing within the margins of society, facing unique challenges and societal pressures that exacerbate mental health struggles; I work with gender-diverse youth and adults, queer couples, and those with insecure attachments, social anxiety, and neurodivergence.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
