I have experience treating PTSD, abuse, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, women’s issues, religious trauma and faith transitions, parenting challenges, and addiction.
My name is Megan, and I am accepting new clients in Oregon. Taking those first steps towards self-improvement is not always easy and finding the right therapist can sometimes feel overwhelming. It is my goal to help you feel more comfortable as you embark on the journey. Creating a safe, accepting, and non-judgmental space where hope, healing, and self-discovery can flourish is what drives my work. I believe that the therapeutic process is different for each unique individual and there is not a one size fits all approach.

Are anxiety and low self-worth regulars in your life? The process of recognizing old stories, beliefs, and patterns can be overwhelming. It can bring up confusion, fear and grief. Changing old ways, that once kept you safe, can feel ungrounding and chaotic. Shifting what you've been familiar and comfortable with is deeply challenging and takes a great deal of strength and vulnerability. I believe healing, growth and change are lifelong practices, and transformation requires time, space, patience and self-compassion. Therapy can offer a safe and caring relationship that supports you in doing this life changing work.

My specialty training includes working with occupational trauma, medical trauma, and pregnancy and infant loss.
Typically my clients reach out to me because of feelings of sadness, worry, and disconnection in important relationships. My clients are often people who describe themselves as being “do-ers”, goal oriented people who have difficulty slowing down to understand their internal world and why they do what they do. Many of my clients are medical professionals, first responders, and veterans who have worked hard to train themselves to manage their emotional reactions because of the need to focus and perform in their work setting.

Do you feel stuck fixation on prior trauma, cycles of depression rumination, obsessive behaviors, or avoidance of "triggers?" These kinds of problems are resistant to change through the thinking part of the brain.
Are you stagnating in talk therapy? I bring thirty years of experience as a licensed social worker, helping people with many kinds of life problems. Besides client-centered talk therapy, I incorporate eye movement and imagery to help clients resolve trauma and move beyond barriers to growth. See acceleratedresolutiontherapy.com. Eye movement helps people when they are "stuck" in talk therapy, rapidly helping people to remove barriers to progress.

The therapy is experiential, somatic, attachment-focused and trauma-informed.
Inexplicable anger, unshakable depression, unrelenting anxiety... This is the fallout of unmet needs like care, attention, respect, and presence happening now and probably had happened for significant lengths of time in our childhoods. As I work with people on these chronic and traumatic experiences, they have shown me how these past traumas can be resolved; that you too can get rid of distorted negative beliefs about yourself; that everyone can improve the quality and selection of their relationships; and when we connect to our bodies and minds with wisdom and tenderness, we become sovereign and healed.

All of us have bad days, days when we don't feel in control of our emotions or regret our actions. Oftentimes, we struggle to seek therapy because we're fearful of being judged or don't know what the process may entail. I'm a straight forward yet laid back therapist that strives to make a space where you can work on the problems you're facing. I primarily work on trauma, parenting, stressors, and transitions with adult clients. I am trained in numerous modalities including some cutting edge options like Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories (RTM). If you're seeking a straight forward provider who might cuss, give me a call.

At SanaVita, we believe healing is unique to each person and embrace the many ways we can access a better life for ourselves and those around us. This may be one-on-one counseling, a solitary walk on a wooded path, enjoying the beauty of a garden or a sunset, learning new things, creating art, making music, or connecting with animals, and people. What does healing look like for you?

I volunteered for a Cultural Trauma & Social Justice event because I wanted to know more about the effects of cultural dissension.
Your strengths identify who you are. Your unique needs can be addressed in a safe, collaborative environment where you can learn to communicate in ways that help you get your needs met in relationships. Anxiety and negativity can prevent you from engaging with others effectively. Learning about your needs and becoming aware of your thinking patterns is crucial. You can overcome insecurities by contacting me for support and insight for the concerns you have about your life.

My practice is dedicated to those who feel overwhelmed by their past and/or present. I believe that a healthy outlook comes from having a good grasp of your ABC's... Accept, Balance, Cope. People often say things like, "I need to let it go," or "I need to forgive ...," etc. But we rarely talk about what it means to do that. Those phrases mean accepting that life is what it is-a balance of both good and bad-and making a choice to focus on the things we CAN change. Then "it" can stop directing our lives-we cope. Whether you need to let go of anger, fear, or sadness, I can help!

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
