For couples, I am trained in PACT therapy which is an experiential modality that supports improved communication, regulation skills, and increases understanding and compassion for oneself and their partner(s).
The human experience is rich, messy and complex. With the right support, you can navigate periods of change, transitions, shakiness, and uncertainty with less fear and more confidence. You can learn to use your body, senses, impulses, and intuition as invaluable tools. As a somatically oriented, Buddhist psychology-based therapist, my hope is to provide a dynamic and supportive context so that your innate wisdom, clarity, and self-compassion can emerge and blossom. I strongly believe in the healing power of humor, both in and out of the therapy room. You have more potential for freedom than you think!

I have completed advanced training in PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy), which informs my work with couples.
If you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, uncertain, or just plain stuck, you do not have to go it alone. I work with individuals and couples who are doing their best to navigate life's difficulties, but need some extra support to get through their current challenges. I offer a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore what is causing you to feel stuck and what would help you become "unstuck." I trust people’s inherent strength, and ability to bounce back from way more than we might imagine possible. I see myself as a supportive guide, facilitating a process of self inquiry, creating shared meaning, and making needed changes in life.

I am trained in EMDR, AEDP, and PACT.
Whether this is your first time seeking therapy or you are coming back to the work, finding a therapist you connect with is key. When you feel the right fit, it is amazing what is possible on the healing journey. Problems start to feel more manageable and creativity opens up, allowing you to lean in and work toward the change you want to see happen. I deeply value both humor and seriousness to the therapeutic relationship. I believe that we are all wired to move toward health; sometimes we need help and guidance along the way to clear out past trauma, anxiety, relationship problems, depression.

Relationships: I utilize the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT).
Being present with ourselves and our lives is the most potent force for change. I am a climate-aware therapist working with individuals, couples, and families experiencing loss, grief, confusion, and conflict. My work focuses on grief, death & dying, trauma integration, and climate distress. Increasing our capacity to tolerate our pain and listen to what we really need dramatically increases our well-being. What would it be like to be more present in your life? Our work together can help you move towards a more fulfilling experience of life, even when loss and grief are present.

I once saw the term "Survival of the Attached"- indeed, no person is an island, we all live in realtionship to others and our partner/spouse/co-parent can be the one person who is most upsetting to us and the one we can experience the deepest healing with. You deserve a secure, thriving, joyful relationship, one were you know exactly how to care for each other! I welcome folks from all walks of life and social locations. I specialize in transnationals: expats, mixed- citizenship status couples/families, "home" seekers, and those straddling many cultures.

The therapeutic relationship is crucial to the healing process, whether the problem is with external relationships, traumatic experience, or one's relationship with the self. I use psychoanalytic principles and relational dynamics to explore the internal conflicts and patterns that are at the root of emotional, psychological and relational problems. I am also sensitive to spirituality and the existential problems inherent in being human, and how these affect us all. I have a special interest in the psychology of twins and intersubjective relating in general.

Feeling isolated, unsure of your purpose, stressed in your relationships, or ashamed or confused about your thoughts, actions or feelings? You are not alone. Mental health, relationship conflict, social/economic stressors, and life during COVID can all make it challenging to feel truly connected. But experiencing connection – whether with yourself, loved ones, pets, or the natural world – is the cornerstone to wellness, and it's worth the vulnerability it takes to get there. Together we'll explore how to support you in building connections and coping skills that nourish you and your relationships for the long term.

Psychobiological Approach Couple Therapy

How does the psychobiological approach to couples therapy work?

The psychobiological approach to couples therapy combines research in three domains—attachment theory, developmental neuroscience, and arousal regulation—to address relationship challenges. Couples learn about their underlying emotional and physiological responses to different situations so as to identify these responses and then shift them with the help of practice exercises in sessions.

Is the psychobiological approach to couples therapy evidence-based?

While some research has been conducted by its creator, there is little peer-reviewed research to support the efficacy of the psychobiological approach to couples therapy. It’s not as evidence-based as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, or acceptance and commitment therapy.

How long does the psychobiological approach to couples therapy last?

The psychobiological approach to couples therapy is a relatively short-term therapy, typically less than 12 sessions. However, individual sessions can be much longer. A typical couples therapy session lasts 45 minutes, while these sessions often last for two to three hours, and sometimes three to six hours. Some couples may opt to attend two or three sessions per week.

What are the limitations of the psychobiological approach to couples therapy?

A limitation of the psychobiological approach to couples therapy is that the evidence is much more limited than it is for other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, or acceptance and commitment therapy. Additionally, the psychobiological approach to couples therapy only applies to couples in relationships, so keep in mind that it cannot treat mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.
