My personal journey as a queer woman, adoptive and foster mom, and eating disorder survivor has informed my eclectic and person centered approach.
Are you a parent trying hard to meet both your own and your family’s needs, or a teen struggling with body image, identity, and school? Are you balancing raising your children while also caring for aging parents? Maybe you find yourself always fighting “the system” and are exhausted from defending your own or your family’s right to exist.

In our work together, I will use humility, humor, and curiosity with my experiences as a gender-queer feminist, trauma survivor, and social justice and diversity advocate.
Those who tend to enjoy my approach are individual adults (18+) who are committed to self exploration, challenging past patterns, and personal growth. My practice focuses on people with symptoms of depression and/or anxiety that may stem from: lack of identity development (who am I?); adjusting to life changes–such as, going to college, career challenges, coming out, partnering/divorce, death of a loved one, mid-life crisis, retirement, empty nest; relationship conflicts–work or personal; past trauma; poor attachment to childhood caregivers; or experiences as part of a marginalized group (i.e. BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, women, immigrants).

I specialize in work with humans with depression, anxiety, Autism Spectrum Disorder, the LGBTQA+ community, and grief.
I believe all of us are doing the best we can with what’s in front of us. I also believe we all deserve support, guidance, and someone to understand our dark moments, our lost moments, our hard-to-figure-out moments. That’s why I’m here. I have worked as a licensed therapist with all types of humans for over 12 years. I’m down to earth, experienced, and hard to surprise. I can both firmly challenge distorted beliefs while also bringing incredible compassion for just how hard things are sometimes. I believe in the necessity of humor and value of creative expression as a way to be heard, especially when you can’t find the right words.

My commitment and curiosity have led me to continue my studies by exploring the lessons of neuroscience, meditation, relational and intersubjective perspectives, attachment styles, LGBTQ care, trauma, and more.
My interest is in helping you live your life fully. What do you know, and love, about yourself? What troubles you, no matter how much you work on it? And what are those unthought knowns–the truths about yourself that you don’t yet tell yourself? There is great healing power in learning them and learning how to use them. When someone enters a treatment with me, I feel the deep honor of accompanying that person on a significant journey. During the 30 years I’ve done therapy, I’ve become increasingly impressed by the power of a life story. How do we nurture the qualities that define us, make life more exciting and satisfying?

I have a strong passion for working with the LGBTQIA+ population as well as children, teens and transition age youth.
I have worked in crisis services and community mental health with children and adults. I practice primarily from Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Person Centered (Rogerian) approaches, and have training in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I love working with clients who are ready to challenge themselves to grow through their experiences - clients who challenge themselves to step outside of their comfort zones to grow into better versions of who they are. I also appreciate when clients have clear goals and use therapy in the manner that best fits their style.

Despite identifying as queer myself, I am passionate about working with clients of any gender/sexual orientation, including straight cisgender men.
I'm currently accepting individual clients aged 25+ for online sessions 10am–12pm and 2pm–4pm on weekdays. Are you feeling weighed down by anxious and depressing thoughts? Have you experienced traumas that keep you stuck in negative cycles? Perhaps you are struggling with a chronic illness or injury that seems to limit your potential. Or maybe you are bracing against the limitations of the gender binary and want to explore your authentic gender identity and expression? In your hardest moments, you may even face existential or spiritual questions of meaning and purpose.

I work with clients skillfully to safely facilitate access to their own natural wisdom. I work specifically to craft the interpersonal space that supports growth in my clients. You may feel somehow broken, incomplete, or even bewildered. I remember these feelings from my own experience of healing and I use these experiences and vulnerabilities to guide my work as a therapist. Though the relationship is based on unconditional acceptance, my clients undergo remarkable transformation. I provide the skills of expert listening, empathy, clear boundaries, and genuineness to my clients.

I am passionate about coming into the Here and Now with clients and believe in the healing power of being witnessed with presence and loving kindness. Using mindfulness based practices I focus on supporting clients in addressing issues of depression, anxiety, and identity issues. In session I emphasize bringing the client’s attention out of thoughts/stories and into their present moment bodily experience with the understanding that more immediate change can occur this way. I enjoy experiencing the client and counselor relationship as a microcosm of the client’s greater relational life, and an opportunity to do deep healing.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
