Resilience, the ability to bounce back from adversity, is born through kindness and self compassion. Trauma, feelings of anxiety, depression, lack of hope or motivation, and disconnection can cause us to lose compassion for ourselves and others. We want to feel good, be active, and live the way we want to live but sometimes stress and adversity create roadblocks that stand in the way. “I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.” ― Maya Angelou. Welcome to Kind Minds - it takes bravery to seek therapy, I'm glad you're here!

I work with parents and kids using PCIT ( Parent-Child Interaction Therapy) to address behavior problems in young children, as well as individual and family therapy to give kids and caregivers coping strategies and to help improve family communication.
Being a parent can be the most rewarding but also the most difficult job out there. Sometimes it can feel so mysterious and complicated, and sometimes when children experience distressing feelings of anxiety or anger or have persistent behavioral concerns, parents can feel like they just have no idea if they’re on the right track or not.

I am certified in PCIT & work primarily from a Cognitive-Behavioral paradigm but also implement aspects of Social Thinking, Interpersonal, and Relational Cultural Theory into my practice.
I’m only taking clients who need evaluations - not therapy at this time, but I firmly believe that everyone could use some therapeutic intervention at some point in their life & these skills should be applied in every area of our lives. For that reason, I often ask that my clients practice our skills in between sessions. It is difficult to use therapeutic skills when we need them if we do not practice them when we are calm & levelheaded. I give transparency and honesty to my clients, and I expect it in return.

I have knowledge and training in various modalities, including but not limited to: Written Exposure Therapy, ERP, TF-CBT, AF-CBT, and PCIT.
I work with individuals (adults, teens, and children) and families on their journey towards healing and self/familial authenticity. In life, we often don't choose what cards we are dealt, but I help clients develop skills to play them while navigating challenges that the game of life brings. Life is a difficult, and sometimes you need to rethink your game-plan. Maybe you recently went through life transition, change, or trauma. Maybe, you just need a safe place to process, feel heard, understood, and safe. I have experience providing trauma-informed and person-centered care for a variety of ages and concerns.

My approach to therapy involves focusing on the family unit, meeting each individual family member where they’re at while treating them as an important part of the therapeutic process. I do this by treating each family member equally and with compassion. I often get calls from parents asking me to help their child and my response is always the same… “Let's work together to help your kiddo.” Studies show that when parents are involved, kids recover from trauma significantly faster.

Most people have been unsuccessful when they tried to change problematic behavior. I help you trouble shoot roadblocks and find more effective ways to success. I start with an intake interview to better understand your experiences, what has been helpful in the past, what has not been helpful in the past, and what may be most helpful in the future. I conduct motivational interviews to discover more about your readiness for change. Then, I meet you where you are in order to increase the likelihood of your success. I incorporate evidenced-based treatment protocols into your plan and evaluate progress on an on-going basis.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists

Does parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) work?

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective across domains, including for children with behavioral problems, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have experienced early childhood trauma. Further, studies have found that the skills developed through PCIT benefit not only the child in therapy but also siblings, as the parent internalizes lessons learned in sessions and is able to incorporate them into interactions with other family members.

How long does PCIT last?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and treatment lasts, on average, between 12 and 20 sessions. Factors that influence treatment duration include how regularly a client attends treatment, how much progress is achieved between sessions, the particular skills that need development, and the extent to which the parent and therapist see improvement.

Can PCIT be done online?

PCIT is among the therapy types best suited for video sessions. Therapists are able to communicate with parents with essentially the same ease, and by observing the parent and child at home in their normal environment, the therapist may gain additional insight into their interactions, as the child will have their normal toys and may feel more comfortable and act more naturally than they would in a therapist’s room.

Does PCIT help parents?

In addition to the skills parents develop through the treatment, PCIT has also been shown to reduce frustration, stress, and depression in parents and promote confidence and a sense of calm when dealing with their children. The desired outcomes of PCIT include a reduction in defiant and aggressive behavior by children and an improvement in communicating their feelings productively, complying with parental instruction, and behaving according to parents’ rules. Growth in these areas can be a relief for parents.
