At any age or stage in life, difficulties along the way can cause positive parts of ourselves to get a little buried, blocked, or hidden. Using your own creative process, I aim to help you reconnect with the parts of yourself that are courageous, caring, compassionate, curious, confident, calm, and connected. This process can be done individually, with couples, and in family sessions.

It’s okay to not be okay. Asking for help is the bravest thing you can do. I am here to help! Are you feeling anxious or depressed? Maybe for you it’s anger, withdrawal, or feelings of hopelessness. Maybe you are having relational issues or struggling to work through trauma. Maybe you are a parent struggling to manage tough behaviors with your child. Whatever you are feeling and whatever you are going through, your feelings are valid and you are worthy of help. Sometimes our worries and problems feel so big and so overwhelming, it’s hard to find our way through without a guide and a little extra support. I get it, life is hard!

My counseling philosophy is grounded in trauma-informed practices, meaning I value collaboration, empowerment, and emotional and physical safety above all else. In time, clients will gain a richer understanding of themselves while working towards self-determined goals. I am especially attuned to those experiencing LGBT issues, trauma, and depression, as well as various non-monogamous relationships and organizing for social justice. As a social worker and through lived experience, I am highly aware of the daily social, institutional, and communal injustices that impact different historically oppressed people.

I have worked with marriages, families and individuals for nearly two decades in various capacities and have been practicing as a Graduate trained therapist since 2016. I am of the opinion that most people are NOT mentally ill, rather they are emotionally or behaviorally stuck in a pattern that is creating dissatisfaction or discomfort in living which is often the result of a difficult experience.

No one comes to a therapist because they need a lecture. You're here because you need a partner on your personal journey to healing. Good therapy is an invitation into a dialogue, not a monologue where someone "thera-splains" yourself to you. It's my passion to help my clients with self-esteem, depression, anxiety, parenting and learning to find enjoyment in daily life. I use trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches to support my clients and am LGBTQ affirming. My areas of expertise include life transitions, depression/anxiety and positive parenting coaching (including how to support your LGBTQ child).

I believe that we all benefit when we pause and reflect on our lives. Sometimes, however, we need a trained person to help us find the pause button! Over the past twenty years I have been honored to walk along side people-many who were ill, grieving, or struggling with any number of life's obstacles. In session, you and I will individualize you care plan: Talk Therapy, Mindfulness, Narritive, and/or Cognitive-Behavioral therapy are a few tools we will work with.

I’m sure I am not the only one discovering ways the trauma and upheaval of the past few years has changed our lives dramatically. Maybe you are feeling stuck or trapped in relationship dynamics that feel unhealthy or stagnant. Trying to preserve or navigate connections with family who claim to love you with their words while their actions have a different impact? What even ARE boundaries, you may be asking yourself, and how do I even set them? Even if you’re just struggling to get out of bed to go with work when you keep waking up with anxiety or depression sitting on your chest, relief may be closer than you think.

Codependency Therapists

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
