I work with individuals, couples and groups.
Many adults may seek the help of a therapist when they are feeling depressed or anxious. Often they might be experiencing disillusionment, discontent, doubt or restlessness but are not sure of the reasons why. Many times they seek to alleviate the painful emotions resulting from loss, or dysfunction in interpersonal relationships. I believe my role is to assist these clients in determining the source of their discontent and developing coping skills to live successfully and happily, in spite of life's challenges. I especially enjoy working with adults experiencing midlife transitions and the associated challenges of the afternoon of life.

Hello you! You’re so brave to be seeking out support. What a great gift you’re giving yourself! I know it can be so hard sometimes to figure out how and why you respond to situations the way you do. Or maybe you know why, and you don’t know how to respond differently. Maybe emotions feel scary, and you don’t know how to express them. Maybe you struggle with communicating your needs or boundaries to your family, partner or self. Maybe anxiety or depression or trauma responses are so familiar it feels impossible to exist in a world without them.

I work with adults of all ages, and couples.
I take a more proactive approach to our mental health, believing that if we practice consistently, and not just when we are struggling, we can experience greater well-being. With consistent action over time, we can begin to face our challenges, learn to cope with them, and in turn, live a more fulfilling life. I love mindfulness as an emotional management tool, Cognitive Based Therapy to improve resilience and self esteem, and I also like Internal Family Systems and EMDR. Talk therapy is my primary intervention, as expressing one's self is essential.

I specialize in trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, and discovering life purpose.
Right now you may be feeling overwhelmed, struggling with the daily routines of life, or just wanting to give up. But one day this will become your story...a powerful memory of how strong and resilient you are. How do I know? Because I've been there before. Sharing what you are experiencing in the safely of a therapeutic setting can be your first step to healing. A first step to letting yourself believe that life doesn't have to be this way. You will learn to understand your experiences, and how to cope better. Then you will learn to let go of what is not helpful and add the skills and habits to meet your goals.

I continue to build knowledge to provide the most affirming care so I can work with a variety of life's problems and a variety of clients, with the understanding that validating one's worth and building a solid therapeutic relationship is at the core of our work together.
All humans have inherent worth, yet I believe a lack of self-worth is at the core of all emotional pain. I use a narrative approach to allow clients to share their story as they see it and then help them reframe to build a life that better meets their desired goals. Self-defeating behaviors created to cope with difficult situations, such as trauma, gender identity and a lack of validation, can be changed when identified and understood. I join my client on their journey to become the person they desire. I am a member of World Professional Association of Health and of International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation.

I counsel a variety of client issues including relationship difficulties, self-esteem/worth, grief, work-life balance, anxiety/depression, and other experiences that prevent us from connecting to our life fully.
Each of us encounters moments when life leaves us feeling overwhelmed and underprepared. When we experience these challenges, it's common for sadness, worry, and conflict to leave us emotionally drained or off-balance. We may even find ourselves focusing more on the past or in the future than we are on the present moment. It is my privilege as a counselor to help clients explore these challenges, develop personal, relationship, and wellness goals, prepare for obstacles that may get in the way of meaningful change, and begin to mindfully recommit to living their best life possible.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
