My ideal client is willing to explore their thoughts and feelings, even when it is difficult. They may be dealing with issues such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties, which are often rooted in underlying factors like past trauma, low self-esteem, or significant life changes. They need to feel heard and understood; they will grow in developing coping strategies and building resilience. They may also need help identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and behaviors. By working together, we can create a collaborative and empowering therapeutic relationship that creates change.

Working from a relational perspective, I see each individual as unique in the experiences they bring into the room, and I see the evolving relationship formed in therapy between client and therapist as the most impactful part of the process.
It's normal for people to feel unsure in knowing where to start when wanting to change, or when wanting to better understand themselves. Life can leave us feeling overwhelmed, and we need someone to come alongside us as we sift through our own emotions, whether old or new. My belief in holding space for clients is that the therapy process is of most help to people when it allows them to explore their difficulties in light of both their past and present experiences, and to explore them with someone who is safe, present, and attuned to their needs in the moment.

I am passionate about what I do. I believe you already have inside of you the ability to make the changes you want in your life. I love to see people find healing by taking captive their self defeating thoughts and making changes in their behavior. I know the most important thing I can do as a therapist is build a trusting relationship with the people who come into my office.

You don't have to be "crazy" to seek counseling. Some people are just stuck and need some help getting back on track. Others are at a point in life they're not sure what to do next, so they come to figure that out. Some people have relationship problems in the family or at work, and want help to work through it. Some have emotional problems, or are haunted by past events and want to break free of them. Still others are wanting to grow and develop a clearer sense of purpose, or gain a stronger sense of spirituality.

I regularly work with couples seeking to avoid divorce and other relationship struggles.
I am raptured by a conviction that true speech heals. When we are dishonest with ourselves and others, we internally deposit distress, anxiety, and depression. Holding this in mind, I aim in my personal and clinical practice to foster an environment where truth is uncovered and revered. In so doing, people are freed from the trappings of lies, explicit and functional. I look forward to partnering with those who have the courage to look at what is true.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
